Disturbed anti-war protester can't find soldier, kills civilian with axe instead
Source: Associated Press

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) — A U.S. citizen has confessed to using an axe to kill a Dutch student after failing to find a soldier to attack, his lawyer said Tuesday.

The suspect, Carlos Hartmann, 41, of Tecumseh, Mich., has confessed to the Sept. 8 killing on a train platform in the southern city of Roosendaal, defence lawyer Peter Gremmen said.

Gremmen said Hartmann wanted to punish the Netherlands for its support of the war in Iraq.

Hartmann appeared before a judge Tuesday and was ordered held for another two weeks for investigation.

1. "Disturbed anti-war protester?"
WTF is up with that headline? That's not a protester...that's a crazy person. Perhaps an anti-war crazy person, but still...

Calling him a "protester" is insulting and prejudicial.

27. The two descriptors are not mutually exclusive.
Unfortunately, sometimes the nuts land on this side of the tree. That's just reality.

28. Not really in this case...
Why label him a "protester?" Was he carrying a sign? Had he been at an anti-war rally? Or did he just hate the war and want to kill a soldier? I find the use of the term curious.

2. Classifying this guy as an "anti war protester" is wrong.
The guy is a nut job. If he wants to use the excuse of protesting, that's all it is, an excuse.

18. Like the U.S. financed mass murders of Latin Americans? Like that?
Edited on Tue Sep-11-07 06:02 PM by Judi Lynn
I can see the high value of one loon in Europe running amock. You bet.

He's a real stain on the badly tarnished images of anti-war protesters, isn't he? Maybe they should all be rounded up right away.

6. Notice how they never have headlines like "Disturbed Christian woman suffocates children."?
It's always just "Disturbed woman". Read a few paragraphs down and you find she believes that God told her to do it. Oh, but it never winds up in the headlines. Unless, of course, it suits their purpose.

7. An American kills a Dutch civilian to protest the Iraq war?
The connection is so tenuous as to be invisible - even an insane person wouldn't see it. In my opinion, somebody here is lying - either the killer or the reporter.

8. To be fair, if it had been a disturbed right-winger...
When some paranoid delusional guy expresses his paranoid delusions through neo-nazi associations or something similar, there are plenty of people here ready to say "Typical freeper". It's not right when AP does it, but it's not right when we do it either.

9. True, but paranoid, delusional right-wingers are usually given TV shows or newspaper columns.
That way they can spread their paranoid, delusional philosophy to others, like Timothy McVeigh and Eric Rudolph.

10. It gets even worse...
the guy apparently (according to the dutch news) is former Air
Force. It's true he wanted to take revenge on a dutchy, but he
had a (comparable) Navy Seal in his mind. Roosendaal is home
of the Dutch commandoes, so he took to the right spot. He
talked to a ten year-old girl outside the trainstation, went
in and hacked away.

(offtopic: I tried to post this news earlier, but the system
told me I had not yet posted enough. Can a mod PM me about
that?)

2. Forget the complaint-in Nieuw Amerika that gets you on a "special" list...

15. a special list!
Does that mean those on the list get 'special ed' as well? (methinks I make the list already, for having talked to the Iraqi gvt before the war started)

I do feel bad about the situation. I'm barely old enough to remember bearing witness to the tearing down of the Wall, but less than 20 years later we'te in the same shit again. East vs West leaves us in the middle; alliances crumble fast when under pressure from both sides

You have posted more than once since I saw your 8-post count above, yet you still show 8 posts. What sort of fuzzy math is this? You should complain to the mods.
