Kucinich To Oppose September 11 Resolution, Says It Is Incomplete
Source: Kucinich.House.Gov

Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) released the following statement in opposition to today’s September 11 resolution:

“I honor the memory of those who died on September 11 and extend sympathies to their family members and to those who lost their lives trying to save lives,” Kucinich said.

“I support the troops. I believe the best way to honor the memory of those who died on September 11 is to tell the truth of what the Administration did in the wake of September 11. The Bush Administration launched a war against Iraq, conflating the true tragedy of September 11 with lies about weapons of mass destruction.

“On this, the sixth anniversary of September 11, it is important that Congress wake up to the truth and exercise its obligation under the Constitution to save our nation from being destroyed from the lies that took us into Iraq, the lies that keep us there, the lies that are being used to set the stage for war against Iran and the lies that have undermined our basic civil liberties here at home. The September 11 resolution that Congress considers today should have made reference to those matters. It does not, so I cannot support it.

“This Administration long ago politicized the September 11 attacks, distorted it and dishonored it. If Congress really wanted to honor the memory of those who died on September 11, we would cause the full truth to be told to the American people. If Congress really supported our troops we would bring them home and not provide more funding for the war.

"If Congress really wanted to honor the memory of those who died on September 11, we would cause the full truth to be told to the American people."

Thank you for that, Dennis. You have shown guts that few men in Congress have. Your words will not fall on deaf ears as long as I am live.

I'm going to invoke 9/11 here in the same heartless, shameless way that our current government has been doing for the past six years. Except, what I am about to say makes sense---logical sense.

In memory of those who died on 9/11, vote Dennis Kucinich in the Democratic Primary in 2008. Do what it takes to get him on your ballot in your district and vote for him. He will ensure that the victims of 9/11 have not or will not have died in vain.

2. What more can be said than what Dennis Kucinich has already said?
No matter what anyone says about Kucinich, he MUST have a voice, and he makes it his personal responsibility to speak out and endeavor to truly improve things for as many of us as he can. A true American. A true Democrat (and democrat).

3. You said it. He's the best. The other candidates find he's already been there and done that.
I waited, looking for the candidate that answered all the issues right, voted right, had the best plans and was dedicated and committed to "the people" and Kucinich exceeds my expectations. He's the best candidate by far. The others don't compare. Kucinich/Edwards '08...the truth ticket. If people would only hear him and take a good look rather than just dismiss him based on some stupid "electability" lie, they would see he is the best candidate.

Kucinich/Edwards '08...the truth ticket...make it happen

the other candidates can't face the truth.

Except Gore and Feingold, if Feingold lives up to the lone Senate stand he took on the Patriot Act.

Why do we have so many leaders who are allowing us to be killed, maimed, and robbed?

I thank all in the House who have stood up with Kucinich and for themselves in the honorable stands they have taken.

It takes guts to be a leader.

It is a really tough primary. I like several of the candidates. I just personally think Edwards has his act together, makes the best presentation, etc. But, I would vote for any of them (even Hillary though she is far from my first choice) in the presidential election. They are all qualified. They all have good ideas. Kucinich is great.

of what the Democratic Party should be about, and of what I want to see from all Democrats who hold office.

He is the leader I want. I would have been thrilled, and relieved, if he'd been made Speaker instead of Pelosi. What would be "on the table" then?

I'd be overjoyed, energized, and enthusiastic with him in the WH. What kind of a nation could we create under his leadership, with the ideals he holds us to?

Edited on Tue Sep-11-07 09:53 AM by Sander
Why does the media keep announcing that Dennis stands no real chance for the nomination? He is the only candidate that speaks the truth. He is the only candidate who shows real leadership.

However the media has decided he is not worthy of their honest reporting. Instead they give us their pre-cleared and pre-packaged OPINIONS disguised as journalism. There is no real reporting today. Only reporting of manufactured opinions and polls.

The same is true on the Republican side. The media has not only ignored Ron Paul's candidacy, they have actively suppressed what is turning out to be his overwhelming debate victories over the rest of the Republican war-mongering, tax-and-borrow, anti-gay, anti-abortion, anti-government rubber-stamp wannabes.

IMO, the only deserving contest for the presidency would be Dennis Kucinich vs. Ron Paul.

Dennis Kucinich shames the other potential nominees with his honesty, integrity and principles.

They should all drop out and throw their support to Kucinich.

They would quit if they were really interested in doing what is correct instead of doing whatever sleazy chores their corporate masters have dictated that they perform.

The others are all bought and pre-paid for.

They won't represent the poor, women, minorities or working people no matter what they say now, none of them!

Rep. Dennis Kucinich Stands Alone Opposed to Sept. 11 Commemoration Resolution
Tuesday, September 11, 2007

E-MAIL STORY RESPOND TO EDITOR PRINTER FRIENDLY VERSION
WASHINGTON — Rep. Dennis Kucinich, Democratic presidential candidate and no stranger to contrarian views, was the sole congressman Tuesday to vote against the House's Sept. 11 commemoration resolution.

Tuesday's nonbinding resolution was a relatively short document. It had 12 "whereas" clauses — stating things like what happened the day of the terrorist attacks, who was affected and how terrorists have been targeted since then — and six resolution paragraphs establishing Sept. 11 as a day of remembrance, extending sympathies to families of victims who died and honoring those who have fought in Afghanistan and Iraq.

"It is important that Congress wake up to the truth and exercise its obligation under the Constitution to save our nation from being destroyed from the lies that took us into Iraq, the lies that keep us there, the lies that are being used to set the stage for war against Iran and the lies that have undermined our basic civil liberties here at home," Kucinich said in a statement.

"The September 11 resolution that Congress considers today should have made reference to those matters. It does not, so I cannot support it," Kucinich said, also calling for a halt for further war funding and the troops to be brought home.

He was outvoted 334-1. Ninety-eight members weren't present; for the most part, they were either attending Sept. 11 commemorations or the out-of-town memorial service for Ohio Rep. Paul Gillmor, or they had departed town early for the Jewish holidays.

It is amazing how his words seem to reflect the feelings of the American people while Pelosi's words seem to reflect the feelings of the White House. You have to ask whose interest is really served by Pelosi. It doesn't seem to be the interest of the American people.

But if Kucinich starts to get too much attention, the corporate media will simply pull coverage of his campaign, just as they did in 2004, despite the fact that he always trounced his opponents in the debates, and always got the biggest positive response from the audience.

The owners of the so called MSM (ie: 'defense' contractors and high technology corporations that make vast fortunes on the government's war policies) do not want Kucinich's message to be widely disseminated. It could mean an end to their taxpayer subsidized gravy train.

Here is an interesting item on the press coverage of the 2004 Kucinich campaign:

<http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=1597>

I will vote for no one but Kucinich. I refuse to lend my support to perpetuating the corruption of my government.

Does this make me a blue-dog/DLC-sypmathizing/Clintonite? If it does, I'm FINE with that. And I know I'm not alone on this site.

I prefer the official party dedication FAR more than anything else:

"On the sixth anniversary of September 11, we honor those who were killed in those tragic attacks, the family and friends who still grieve their loss, and the survivors who continue to suffer. On that day, our country and our world changed forever. Today, Democrats also renew our commitment to fighting the real war on terror. Six years after the attacks, we are not as safe as we should be. We remain committed to fighting al Qaeda where they are and implementing policies that make our country safer and more secure." - Howard Dean, www.DNC.org

56. I don't understand why you say, "This is why I will NEVER vote for Dennis Kucinich."
Would you give a couple of details?

60. I agree
It is best to say the safest possible words and quibble and waver as much as humanly possible while my friends and family die fighting in Iraq.

Let us not say anything about how this terrorist event has been so evily manipulated and misused by the greatest collection of rouges and war profiteers this century (I hope).

Let us not speak of how they have swiss cheesed our infrastructure while passing out large cronyist prizes to their donors.

And most of all let us not talk about how beyond the smoke of the falling towers, the terrorists have won. They have made us a nation that votes its fears before its dreams, a nation that is trying to inflict upon itself holy law, and a nation that has surrendered so many of the freedoms that are long a legacy of western democratic principle.

And then, you provide no reasons what so ever.

Strange but typical of those who bash Dennis Kucinich. His detractors have literally nothing to grasp for.

His positions are rock solid and they resonate very well with the general public when they are allowed to hear them.

67. Dennis Kucinich: the best Democratic candidate.

Those who are working hard to shove Hillary Clinton down our throats are going to bring about another Republican presidency.

68. Dennis will spend 3 hours answering questions on 9/12
on the Ed Schultz show on Air America. It should be very informative because Ed doesn't screen calls and he will get to hear from left and right. I'm sure he will handle himself presidentially.

73. CALL KUCINICH'S OFFICE AND THANK HIM
Edited on Wed Sep-12-07 11:34 AM by librarycard
It's amazing so many on this thread think he did a great job, yet nobody called him?? Speaking from personal experience what with all the jingoistic propaganda I have to put up with/take a stand against on the job, I was elated to read about his vote.

I phoned Dennis' office immediately and was told I was the first one today to THANK Kucinich!

For godssake, ya'll, call him!!
