Iran Has Remote-Controlled Launch Pads
Source: Jerusalem Post

Preparing for a possible American or Israeli strike on its nuclear installations, Iran has developed a remote-controlled launch system that can be used to operate dozens of unmanned Shihab ballistic missile launchers in underground bunkers, The Jerusalem Post has learned.

After recent upgrades, the Shihab-3 ballistic missiles are believed to have a target range of 2,000-kilometers. The missile was initially developed with a 1,300-km. range.

According to informed Western sources, the remote-controlled launch system was developed by the Iranians in conjunction with North Korea and by employing Chinese technology. Iranian Revolutionary Guards Commander Yayha Rahim Safavi said recently that Iran had equipped its Shihab missiles with an advanced guidance system that can control them after they are launched.

Israeli defense officials recently said if Iran were attacked, it would most likely respond by launching Shihab missiles at Israel or US targets in the region. The officials said Israel's Arrow missile defense system was capable of intercepting all of Iran's operational missiles.

1. That ought to give both the US and Israel cause for concern...
It might just help dissuade any kind of attack they might be planning...

4. Methinks it's more likely to actually prompt a US offensive.
How would ordinary citizens verify anything about remote controlled missles? Or missles with 800 miles greater range?

They can't.

We are all in the dark and at the mercy of the sabre-rattlers.

close to a million troops between China and Russia that are just aching to intervene on Iran's behalf. Although China will destroy us financially first.

17. These are conventional weapons not really useful
against hardened military targets. They are mostly good for lobbing into cities in order to scare the crap out of the civilian population, as in the missile wars of the late stages of the Iran-Iraq war.

19. Israel should hope our Dictator doesn't invade Iran.
All of Iran's missiles and any other missiles in the middle east are pointed Israels way.

23. Gives me pause
Jerusalem Post is not exactly a Likud paper.

But I'm not sure how Iran's ability to guide missiles once they're in the sky is that much of an advantage over missiles guided by previous means.
