Eight months after suffering a brain hemorrhage, Sen. Tim Johnson and his wife, Barbara, will return to Sioux Falls on Aug. 28 to take part in a welcome home celebration in which Johnson plans to thank constituents for their support during his lengthy recovery.
Johnson's staff members still are negotiating for a venue for the event, which will be open to the public, according to Johnson spokeswoman Julianne Fisher.
Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin is planning to attend, according to spokesman Russ Levsen.
Fisher said people will find Johnson's speech "is still a little slower than what people will remember from before Dec. 12," when he suffered the brain injury during a telephone interview. "He does need some assistance getting around," Fisher says.
