An overpass under construction on the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway in east Mesa collapsed Thursday morning, sending more than 75 yards of roadway to the ground.

Nobody was injured when the westbound lanes of the bridge came down about 8:30 a.m. just east of Power Road.

Power Road remained open.

"It's early on here and we don't have any answers yet," said Doug Nintzel, a spokesman for the Arizona Department of Transportation.

9. Oh, but we don't consider foreign countries!
Everybody knows the only thing separating Texas and California is Arizona.

4. It would be hard for the Gov of NM to veto legislation in AZ
:-)

But I know what you mean, AZ's governor is Democrat Janet Napolitano.

15. We're due here
(Seattle) to have one of our floating bridges sink, or the viaduct fall down. When I-90 went down it was a contractor screw up. If an earthquake doesn't take the viaduct down, the politicians arguing about what to do, will.

27. Interstate roads in Wisconsin are so much better than most places or at
least most places in the Midwest.

I can close my eyes when I cross from Illinois into Wisconsin and know the exact moment I am in Wisconsin.

Now I don't know how good the interstate is in the Milwaukee area but I-90 also known as I-39 I think has been good.

29. I'm sure there are a few small bridges that need upgrading
but those bridges could be considered major if they are relied on heavily by the those in the area.

I don't know the last time the bridges over the Wisconsin River has been renovated. It does get a lot of traffic especially during the summer months. But not as much as other bridges during rush hour resulting in backups miles long.

Steel beam scaffolding for an overpass being constructed at Highways 70 and 149 collapsed Tuesday morning, trapping a Federal Express driver inside the cab of his delivery truck, and injuring a worker who fell with the twisted metal.
The driver, Chico resident Robert Sylvester, 45, was traveling northwest on 149 at 7:15 a.m. when steel beams erected over the roadway just hours before came crashing down.

One beam sliced through the hood; the second came down on the cargo area of the box-style delivery van.

Rescue workers at the scene said Sylvester was pinned inside the cab of the truck by one of the 3,000-pound beams, which pressed the dashboard against his lap.
