Four U.S. soldiers killed in Baghdad bomb: military
Thu Jul 19, 2007 1:49AM EDT

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Four U.S. soldiers and their Iraqi
interpreter were killed by a roadside bomb in Baghdad on
Wednesday, the military said on Thursday.

The attack on their patrol happened in the east of the
capital, the military said in a statement.

U.S. commanders have launched a major security
clampdown in and around the capital targeting militants
and have warned that casualties could rise as troops fan
out into riskier neighborhoods.

Since the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, a total of
3,626 U.S. military personnel have been killed, including
47 so far this month. The previous three months was the
bloodiest quarter for American forces since the start of
the war.

3. And the beat goes on.....
the Iraqis are no closer to taking over the security of their nation as they were at the beginning of this idiotic war, the government insists on taking the month of August off (they've been working so HARD :eyes: ), Bush continues to spout the same old lies, Republicans in Congress obstruct any up or down vote for the creation of a time line for withdrawal.........same as it ever was, same as it ever was.

Meanwhile our soldiers pay the ultimate price for the ineptness of the Bush administration and an Iraqi government that just doesn't seem to give a shit. Same as it ever was. :banghead:

4. It is spin that the parliament doesn't care
There are too many other motivations for the parliament to sit on their hands than to just flippantly blame their inaction on not caring. But thie meme of Iraqis not caring and not being responsible plays well into the narrative that Iraqis are just a bunch of violent heathens.

What if the Iraqi parliment thinks that the only way for there to be any reconciliation is for the Americans to leave? What better way to get Americans to leave than to not meet benchmarks for stealing their resources? They know the American public is against this war, so if they sit on their hands, perhaps the political pressure to leave in the U.S. will reach a fevered pitch and the war will end.

Then the parliament can actually govern without an American gun to their heads.

It is arrogant of Americans to think that progress hasn't been made because Iraqis don't care about their country. Everyone cares about their country.

7. Oh, they care....
but not enough to put their own lives on the line defending their new found freedom? Perhaps their Parliament could pen a resounding rebuke of American forces being on their soil. Surely that would be enough of a hint to Bush to pick up the Army and leave, right? But they haven't done that either. No, they've done nothing. They'll take the month of August off (and of course the week preceding and following in which nothing ever gets done) and allow American forces to continue to be slaughtered because Iraqi forces "just aren't ready yet". :eyes:

I expect the Iraqi Parliament to take SOME action, ANY action, to either remove American troops from their soil or to take the responsibility for defending their country upon themselves. So far? Nothing, Nada. Zip. Zilch.

8. Didn't the parliament recently issue a statement
for the Iraqis to arm themselves because the situation was hopeless?

They are a puppet government cradled by occupiers (t give the occupiers legitimacy) and forced to operate by rules set by the occupiers. How much freedom do you think they will appreciate? If they rise up against the U.S. overtly, then they will lose their protection and will be killed one by one as collaborators.

I admit I have no direct knowledge of how politics works down there, but I had it described to me by those that are from there (Iraq, Iran, etc.). Doing nothing is exactly the prudent course for them because they are between a rock and a hard place. They either sell out their people and eventualy die as traitors or they rise up against the occupiers and are killed because of lack of security in the middle of a civil war (where, strangely enough, American-opposers end up dead, too).

And the Iraqi forces will never be ready....ever....to follow America's prescription for their stability. We are responsible for 1/20 of this country being dead, directly or indirectly over the last 17 years. No one wants to follow us. They want us to go home.

The safest way to have that happen is to act stupid, self-absorbed, and inept....play into the stereotypes. Not worth giving democracy to. Looks like America is buying the ruse, which underscores its effectiveness.

6. Pile 'em high!

Grass Bush

Pile the bodies high in Austerlitz and Waterloo Iraq
Shovel them under and let me work--
I am the grass; bush; I cover all.

And pile them high in Gettyburg Baghdad
And pile them high in Ypres and Vedum Mossoul and Al Fallaujah

Two years, ten years, and passengers ask the conductor:
What place is this?

I am the grass bush.
Let me work.
