WASHINGTON A new round of federal anti-terror grants to regions around the country shows big gains for some, but cuts for others, including Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties.
The anti-terror aid, expected to be announced today by the Department of Homeland Security, is an annual exercise that often leads to complaints from those regions that come up millions of dollars short, compared to the previous year.
The early report states that the Fort Lauderdale district, including Broward and Palm Beach counties, is slated to receive $6.6 million in federal funding, down from the $10 million last year. Miami-Dade County's funding also was cut, going from $16 million last year to an estimated $12 million this year.

U. S. Rep. Ron Klein, D-Boca Raton, also had not seen the report, but had this to say: "I find it hard to believe that the Bush administration would cut Homeland Security funding in South Florida when we have three major sea ports, three major airports and a history of relative risk when it comes to homeland security."
