17 July 2007
BANGALORE: Microsoft Research India on Tuesday announced its PhD fellowship programme awards for 2007, which aims at encouraging students to take up doctoral education in computer science and help the growth of the research community the country.

The fellowships, instituted by Microsoft research's external research and programme group, are awarded to students after a selection process that includes nomination by their faculty and selection by a panel of leading researchers, a Microsoft statement said.

2. Indians?
By the way, I think it's safe to assume that not all of those 'brown people' in Comp Sci departments are Indians.

and being from Microsoft myself (I can't seem to get away from working there very long), I can say that 3/4th of the employees are foreigners who moved to Redmond, WA for the job at Microsoft, and are getting paid far less than Americans get for the same jobs in the computer industry. It is not uncommon for me to have a peer doing the same job I am for $15-$20 less an hour, who happens to be Indian or Bulgarian. Of course Microsoft highers from all over the world, but there's a whole whole lot of Indians working for them. Good people btw. Just ignores the talent in the US for bringing in cheaper foreign labor.

6. Happens inside the USA too
There's hiring going on for dash trash and blue badges from Florida, where wages are lower. Florida workers come to Redmond at the dead bottom of the level's pay range, and often underleveled. It's happened to me... twice... long story ;-) I am happy to be going back. I can't seem to get away, either.
