Russian general derides, warns U.S. on missile shield
Source: Reuters

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia's top general on Thursday ridiculed U.S. plans to deploy a missile shield in Europe as unworkable and warned Washington that Moscow could react with military force if it felt threatened.

Moscow has reacted angrily to the proposed U.S. missile defense system, parts of which would be located in Poland and the Czech Republic. Despite U.S. assurances, Moscow has said it sees the missile system as a threat.

The chief of Russia's general staff, General Yuri Baluyevsky said that since 1945 the U.S. had made little progress on anti-ballistic missile defense and some of its much-touted anti-missile systems were "raw or even untested".

"The one who still believes today that he will be able to intercept 'a few Soviet rockets', makes a serious mistake," he told a news conference. "But let's not drive such scenarios to practical implementation of this utter madness."

1. Sounds like the cold war just got a little warmer. I would thank george but
it's his handlers and the armaments corporations who are pulling the strings. Poopy is heavily invested in armaments, isn't he?

2. Why is this madness being funded?
Why is our party not doing anything to stop this? I haven't heard a single word said by any member about stopping Bush's desire to be able to attack Russia with impunity. He is leading this country down the path to WWIII, and it appears that there is no one in power that is willing to oppose him.

4. Russian general huh
Really, who cares.
So now we're gonna shape policy around what he says?
While I would agree that this whole missile sheild stuff should be stopped and we should be talking about getting rid of the weapons in the first place, I would also say fuck this guy.
Now we're supposed to be frightened into feeling like we need this missile sheild more than ever right? Sounds more like this guy is daring us to put a sheild in europe. Wonder how much poppy is paying him?

The only ones who really need this are the Pentagon and the Kremlin and we're being scared into swallowing it.

5. WWIII is coming pretty soon
I wish we could take control of our own country and head it off, but the barn door's closed on that.

6. It's going to be interesting to see what
Washington decides to do. ~as if they don't have enough crises in the world ~ aren't we putting out fires as it is?

I think Moscow is right on this one. Russia has offered another base in Azerbaijan. The US so far has rejected it.

Interesting...as in watching a train wreck in slow motion
