Rioting could break out on Britain's streets because of anger at the widening gap between rich and poor, it has been claimed.

Sir Ronald Cohen, himself one of the nation's richest men, warned that violence could flare if the chasm between the haves and have-nots was not closed.

The close ally of Gordon Brown raised the spectre as some of Britain's richest bosses were savaged by a powerful Commons committee for using a loophole to avoid paying billions in tax.
