al JaazeraForensic experts in Serbia have begun investigating a mass grave thought to contain the remains of up to 500 ethnic Albanians from Kosovo's 1998-1999 war.
The suspected grave site is in an abandoned quarry between checkpoints in the 2km wide no-man's land which divides Serbia and the breakaway province of Kosovo.
The excavation, which is expected to take five days, is being conducted by Serbian authorities in the presence of officials from Kosovo and the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe.
"We came to check claims that at this location lie the remains of an undetermined number of people," Milan Diplaric, the investigating judge, said.
