Bush arrives in Texas for 2nd week of vacation
http://www.fox23news.com/news/national/story.aspx?content_id=F6EFD8CA-A621-4731-AF0C-18866BE06F21

CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) - President Bush began the second leg of his Christmas vacation Friday, shadowed by troubles on both the global and domestic fronts: another assassination attempt against an ally in Pakistan, a devastating earthquake in Iran and a mad cow discovery that could damage the American beef industry.

Bush left Camp David Friday morning and flew to Waco, Texas. His plan to fly by helicopter to his ranch was thwarted by fog and drizzle, however, forcing him to travel in a motorcade and delaying his arrival by an hour.

Bush began Christmas week on Monday at his Camp David retreat in the Maryland mountains, and planned a low-key visit to his ranch in Crawford, with no public appearances planned through his return to Washington on the weekend after New Year's Day . He planned to work on his State of the Union address, but remain largely out of sight.

However, Bush often breaks up long visits here with a quick stop in the local coffee shop - where he invariably orders a cheeseburger.

So friggin’ predicable…..

Gimme a break. He's playing with his Gameboy and watching football.

5. Politicians and beef - get used to this
You will be treated to plenty of pictures and news reports of politicians eating beef in the next while. At least that's what happened in Canada after our mad cow finding earlier this year.

3. What?!? No brush clearing? No fishing? No golfing? No campaigning?
We know Junior can't read or converse...so, what WILL he do to occupy his time at the pig farm?

BTW, this HAS to be his 7th or 8th week (year-to-date total) for "vacation".

Edited on Fri Dec-26-03 04:33 PM by Dimsdale
that's only two months vacation. With all the "stress" of office, he needs his rest. Besides, we must remember that Our Boy has been on vacation most of his life. He must conduct himself in the manner to which he's accustomed.

BTW, PP, you and I signed on to DU at about the same time. Looks like you've at least 4 times the number of posts. Good Job.

4. no mention of bush* Iraqmire in this whole article...guess dying
American Soldiers are NOT a concern of bush*....

seems to me that should be really important to bush*, since he has sent so many of OUR young people to DIE in Iraq....

perhaps it's those cheap cheeseburgers that are causing shrub's brain to turn to mush...

shrub has cut back all regulation....which especially is laboratory analyses...including environmental, pharmaceutical, food, meat, fish, water, and more....bush* failure to fund laboratories will reverberate across America for years to come...

bush* failure to analyze toxins does not make them go away...
monkey do not hear toxin, monkey do not see toxin, monkey do not speak toxin....the toxins will STILL KILL YOU !!!!

10. I cannot stomach this guy, this coward, this puny prick any longer
He is despicable==he is going on another vactions for a week. He has done nothing but travel around the world on our money, bringing the dullard, upholstry wearing, subservient Stepford with him, on our money, and now sees fit to take ANOTHER vacation in the pig fields of Crawford. That god forsaken dried up place is where he hangs out with pickles, probably binging on booze while he can avoid any public appearances. He is the worst--he is despicable and he is dumb--and his Stepford is twice as dumb.

38. I'm with you!!!
If this guy makes anyone else half as sick as he makes me, he'd be out of office in a New York minute. It's like he has no concept of the suffering he causes and can only think of his own selfish "needs". I do think he's boozing it again, which is probably why he spends so much time on "vacation".

I saw shrub and pickles get off a plane the other day and he looked totally f**ked up! Barely coherent. Why, oh why, do people not see what is really going on here??

22. She gave him a book?
The first couple exchanged gifts at Camp David, where the president gave his wife a gold-beaded necklace and earrings as well as a set of dessert plates she had previously found in Georgetown.

Laura Bush gave the president "a couple of shirts, a couple of ties," and a book by Erik Larson, "The Devil in the White City," a nonfiction best seller set around the 1893 Chicago's World Fair.

The president and his wife were accompanied to Texas by Laura Bush's mother, Jenna Welch.

Yeah, like he's going to read a book. Maybe he'll carry it around with him.

23. That Book should've been titled 'Devil in the White House'
I know a couple of books Pickles should've given him.

What happens if Al Qaida does attack us while he's vacationing at the pig farm? Can Karl Rove be that stupid? Could Americans forgive him if he's off vacationing during an orange alert?

Or is this the clue that this is more hype than substance?

30. Stupid?
Do you think the president of the United States is manning an air traffic control station for NORAD? What _exactly_ do you think the president would/could/should do during the course of a terrorist attack that couldn't be done from the other side of a phone anywhere in the world? These complaints are so asinine. If the government that governs best governs least, aren't we best off with D.C. empty and these money squandering pols on 'vacation'?

37. You didn't address what I asked
I'm not spinning anything. I'm wondering what people think he should be doing. Should he be sitting at a radar station? Should he be pouring over intelligence reports? Should he be serving as an air marshall? What _exactly_ do you think the president could/would/should be doing? Do I understand you correctly, that instead of sitting in Crawford you want him sitting in the Oval Office adding or repealing new regulations? I would assume most DUers would be pleased to know he wasn't 'at the helm' 24/7, whatever they think that actually entails.

39. Your answer
Mr. Bush needs to act like a leader who concerned about the state of this country and the people, not a “photo-opt” on vacation. Mr. Bush’s leadership skills are destructive and shortsighted, nothing more, nothing less. There will be lots of policies to fix after this man is out of office, get the picture.

24. How do his vacation days compare to Clinton's?
I thought the sentence that says, "He planned to work on his State of the Union address, but remain largely out of sight" was very interesting. I can't picture him working on a speech at all, but the stay out of sight sounds like him. Maybe he'll finally pick up a newspaper and actually read about things going on in his country and the world!

Last year's model is going to be hard to top. It was so packed with factual information about how we just HAD TO INVADE IRAQ RIGHT NOW BEFORE SADDAM GASSED US ALL WITH DRONE AIRCRAFT, if you recall.

I'm sure this year's model will include a reading of the names of all American military personnel who have been killed in Iraq Nam, along with circles and arrows and a paragraph explaining how the death of each one contributed to making us safer from Terra.

Fuck bu$h.
Fuck bu$h three ways.
Deeply.
Severely.
And several times.
