219 killed is highest toll over 2 months
Source: USA Today

BAGHDAD — Increased military activity throughout Iraq has pushed U.S. troop deaths to their highest level for any two-month period of the war.

Pentagon records show that 115 troops have been killed so far in May. That raises the total for the past two months to 219, exceeding the 215 who died in April and May of 2004, when U.S. forces fought insurgents in Fallujah.

...

The rising number of casualties coincides with the addition of at least 28,000 U.S. troops in Iraq as part of the U.S.-led security plan. That plan, which includes moving troops from fortified bases to closer contact with Iraqi civilians and insurgents, has contributed to the higher casualties, said Maj. Gen. William Caldwell, the chief spokesman for U.S. forces in Iraq.

Caldwell said coalition forces are targeting leaders of al-Qaeda in Iraq and insurgents.

2. One never sees charts with these articles showing the number of dead soldiers/civilians per month.
I'd like to see one.

4. The average monthly coalition fatalities for the first 8 months
was 52 and that included the invasion. For the past eight months it is running just under 100. The trend is alarming.

6. We have 600 more days of Bush. That's about 20 months, and
at the rate of 115 a month (and that's just the first half of May) we can extrapolate 2,300 more deaths among our troops before January 20, 2009 when he swaggers back to Crawford for the last time.

Numbers on maimings seem to be kept in a black hole, but as best as I can figure, we get about 5 maimings for every death. That suggests at least 10,000 more maimings.

The war began as a mistake and a folly, and it has become an atrocity. Out NOW.

7. You forgot to take into account the **** claim that August
will be a real bloody month. Taking into consideration that he does not seem to think that to date the months have been bloody, I'd up my estimates. Good grief, what have we done to deserve this administration.
