Rush Limbaugh billboard near I-83 defaced (Baltimore)
Source: Baltimore Sun

Apparently, somebody in Baltimore isn't a fan of Rush Limbaugh.

A large billboard advertising local air times for the conservative radio talk-show host has been defaced.

Robert Murrow, a spokesman for the city's Department of Public Works, saw vandalism as he drove to work this morning on I-83 near the Guilford Avenue exit. He called The Sun, saying that someone had poured paint on the image of Limbaugh's face.

Limbaugh, who is nationally syndicated, can be heard on WCBM 680 AM from noon to 3 p.m.

"It looks like they took globs of paint and threw it on his face. It looks great. It did my heart good," said Murrow, who admittedly is not a Limbaugh fan.

Looks good to me. If they catch the culprit I'll contribute to the defense fund!

1. I was going to go off about how they got a plug for his show in there.
But then the next sentence warmed my heart as the DPW rep noted how great Rush looks with blood-red paint splattered on him.

2. Yes, that was nice, wasn't it?
There are a lot of great folks out there. I'm glad he got to get his dig in on Limpig.

4. Bet his supervisor is a Limpballs fan
From OP article:

Kurt L. Kocher, chief spokesman for the city's Department of Public Works and Murrow's supervisor, took issue with Murrow's statement.

"As much as you don't like Rush Limbaugh, you don't endorse vandalism, period," Kocher said. "It's an outrageous comment, and he shouldn't have said it. It is not our policy. I think he got overenthusiastic about his feelings for Mr. Limbaugh. I am very upset about that comment, and I've let him know I'm very upset about that comment. It's his personal comment and it's wrong."

7. Depends on how the quote was reported.
Edited on Thu May-10-07 10:55 AM by Mike Daniels
If the initial speaker's quote could be perceived as a position by the department than that can't be allowed to stand. Given the way the quote is written it does sound like the person is speaking as a representative of the DPW.

I'm willing to bet that the DPW was getting complaints after people saw or heard the initial quote and that lead to the supervisor having to issue his statement.

11. Please...by allowing the paper to identify himself as a spokesperson of DPW
he came across as representing the view of the DPW.

Under the circumstances the boss had to do what he did in issuing his quote.

9. "The billboard is privately owned; Murrow said the city is not responsible for cleaning it."
I'm half-tempted to call him and thank him (info is readily available via The Google!). Or to call his supervisor and tell him to take a big bite.

5. As I drive by some billboards
I've often thought a paintball gun would be a good investment. Thought that a lot when a Limpballs billboard was across the street from my office for ages. Also in 2004 when I'd drive past this big honkin' billboard for Bush.

15. I don't think so, those paint splotches are much too big for that, those would have to be...
...something like Paint hand-grenades or paint bombs of some sort.

Most likely, they took balloons and filled them with Paint, rather than water (not that I would have any experience with that, but I knew "this guy" who said he did that sort of thing when I was a kid).

14. It is one instance where I support the destruction of private property
Limbaugh would hesitate at destroying yours or mine but that is not the reason I support the people who did this.

Limbaugh is a racist drug addict who needs to be taken off the air.

17. Yes, it is not a good
thing to condone vandalism but sometimes when you are innocently playing catch with paint balloons they get caught in the wind and who knows where they might land. I suspect this is more an "Act of God" than anything else.

really like him or listen to him. I wouldn't want to see it backfire.

On the other hand, if it is only instance, I think it says alot, being red paint and all.

I don't like Limbaugh any more than any of you, but defacing someone else's property is a crime. Right?

Do we really want to associate ourselves with people who would do something like this?

Where's the high ground?

30. There Is No High Ground, Here

If you've spent any time listening to Limbaugh and his numerous wannabes on radio and TV, you know that we liberals are constantly mocked and sneered at for our adhere to the rules/find the high ground/everybody play nice instincts. The only effective way to deal with Oxycontin Man and his hordes is to get down to their ugly level and fight like hell. I promise you, this one defaced billboard has more impact than a hundred NY Times editorials. God bless the people responsible for this principled vandalism.....

However, its Rush "Oxycontin" Limbaugh we are talking about here....so, maybe ill just have to look the other way...

28. The funniest billboard vandalism I ever saw was near Portland, Ore.
A nearby casino had a campaign using Kenny Rogers.

One of the Billboards had a huge picture of Kenny smiling invitingly at the viewer with the words, "It'll blow you away" over his head.

Some vandal, with strategic use of white paint, changed it to: "I'll blow you."

You really had to see it, it was HILARIOUS!

31. Took 'em long enough.
The paint-tossers, that is.
Someone near my B'more office religiously posts an "Impeach" bumper sticker on the black stripes of a yellow and black sign. Soon as they are removed, someone puts them back.
There was a big Rush billboard near here. Didn't last very long;)

I was in Baltimore last Saturday, and I saw the painted billboard. Honestly, I'm surprised that no one had made a big deal about it until the comment from the public works guy.
