Author drafts a novel case against Bush
Source: Boston Globe Newspaper

NEEDHAM -- You are a grand juror deciding whether to indict President George W. Bush and his closest aides. You wade through legalese, listen to testimony from FBI special agents, and try to decide if the leader of the free world committed conspiracy to defraud the United States by going to war with Iraq under false pretenses.

She said she prepared for the book the same way she would build an actual case. She combed through intelligence summaries, congressional testimony, White House press briefings, and public remarks made by the defendants, who also include Vice President Richard Cheney, then-National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, then-Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, and then-Secretary of State Colin Powell.

In her introduction, de la Vega argues that the president committed fraud on a scale far worse than perpetrated by Enron Corp. executives, who bankrupted the company while lining their pockets with millions of dollars. Acknowledging that she doesn't expect Bush ever to be indicted, she says that for some Americans the suggestion that the president lied is akin to "a Baptist minister announcing during vespers that he's a cross-dresser."

Boris, who plans to co-write, produce, and direct the movie version, directed and wrote "Oxford Blues," starring Rob Lowe, and wrote "Blood Feud," on Bobby Kennedy and Jimmy Hoffa.

1. Fascinating book and a quick read
I'm a fan of Elizabeth de la Vega's legal analysis on Pacifica Radio broadcasts, so I rushed out to read this book many months ago. It's a quick read that makes a riveting, methodical case for indicting Bush on charges of fraud. The book is not only informative but also entertaining, which, ironically, might be its only drawback. Although de la Vega is dead serious about the elements of the case, she has created fictional characters to voice her well-reasoned arguments. Throughout the book there is some comic relief, such as a running gag about the temperature of the grand jury room. These things may be welcome breaks from the rest of the material, but they also tend to undercut the fact that de la Vega's arguments are fact-based and devastating to this criminal administration.

4. This book has been in and out of the marginal media.
But I scream bloody murder that it should be recognized in the MSM. It's flatly evident on it's face that this book should become a narrative of reality, the impeachement proceedings should have begun years ago.............. btw, good job Vermont state legislature.

5. Does it present the defense as well?
Most cases sound fine if you never hear the other side. I'm wondering if the book makes an effort to present what might be used as a defense of the Bush side of things?

9. To me, that would be a stronger book.
If it made a valid attempt at the defense, then the final conclusion the book presents would carry more weight, to my mind.

7. No. But that's not the purpose of a grand jury
A grand jury is tasked with hearing evidence and testimony put forth by a prosecutor and deciding whether the case is compelling enough to hand down an indictment and merit a trial.

8. Profile Bush Instead
FBI's Behavioral Science Unit (they generate profiles on serial killers) are the ones who really should be looking at Bush.
