US Democrats raise prospect of Bush's impeachment over Iraq by Maxim Kniazkov
15 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (AFP) - A top US congressional Democrat has raised the possibility of George W. Bush's impeachment in a bid to force the president to accept a compromise that would place conditions on continued US military involvement in Iraq.

Representative John Murtha (news, bio, voting record), who chairs the House Subcommittee on Defense and is close to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record), made the comment Sunday in response to repeated threats by the president to veto legislation that calls for withdrawal of US troops from Iraq by the end of next March.

"There's three ways or four ways to influence a president," Murtha said on CBS's "Face the Nation" program. "One is popular opinion, the election, third is impeachment and fourth is the purse."

Asked specifically if Democrats, who now control the US Congress, were seriously contemplating the impeachment option, the congressman responded: "What I'm saying, there's four ways to influence a president ... And one of them's impeachment."

14. Only two have been tried
The Purse (cutting off funding) has been talked about but not tried. I spoke with my Congressmen about this and he said that cutting off funding was a more likely scenario.
If it comes down to a choice between the two, you would think congressional repubs are more likely to go opt for cutting off funding rather than impeachment.
Personally, I would like to see impeachment, as long as it includes Cheney, because of the damage it could to do the g.o.p.

The more the "I" word is spoken, no matter what context, pro or con, the more the masses will become aware of it as a viable option...it's going to be an interesting summer...

9. And here's the alternative to impeachment, House Democrats
Bush will be in office unless he's impeached for another 600 days, more or less. We're losing two or three soldiers a day in Iraq for no good reason other than the madman in the Oval Office's out of control ego. If you don't want to impeach this madman, go over to Iraq, and pick out 1,500 men and women to die. Doesn't matter which ones, but 1,500 of them at least are going to die by January 2009. Why don't you pick them out now, maybe even talk to a few of them, and tell them that because you don't have what it takes to the leaders the people elected you to be, they have to die?

20. NO FRICKIN' KIDDING.
Man, NOBODY can say things the way you do, gratuitous. I'm going to copy this into my Good Quotes file, and using it when I call Congress.

There are talking points and there are talking points. THIS one is beyond the beyond - just plain BRILLIANCE. And EXTREMELY quotable.

Do we have a rational government?

21. Impeachment! It's time. But let's include the US Extreme Court, which

now decides law based not on case law, or legal precedent, but on the opinions of people with an agenda that they agree with. Not to even mention that two of them now on the court did, in December 2000, commit treason by appointing a dictator to be president with no legal reason to do so, just private financial enrichment.

These are the people that make all the lawyer jokes seem not humor, but fact. I believe that if I were a member of the legal profession, I would make it my life's work at this time in our nation's history to see that those responsible for the appointment of Emperor Banana Ass be removed and indicted.

It also occurs to me that a case could be made that since the Chimperor was appointed illegally, then all appointments made by him should be considered 'fruit of the poisoned tree' and those appointments canceled and the people removed from office.

Any discussion from legal scholars? The extremes I think could be impeached by congress. Would it take legislation to remove those appointed by King George the Last? Or could there be another way?

22. fingers crossed, but you know if dipshit is impeached dems will be ...
portrayed as seeking revenge for Clinton. Even though anyone who doesnt have their head up the administrations ass will quickly point out that Bush is impeached for actual reasons, exactly opposite of why Clinton was impeached.
