'West Wing' actress considers running for Congress
Source: Philadelphia Daily News

She played a political aide on TV. Now, actress Melissa Fitzgerald is weighing a real-life run for Congress.

Fitzgerald, a Pennsylvania native who played the assistant to the character C.J. Cregg on the hit NBC drama "The West Wing," is considering challenging Republican Jim Gerlach, said Marcel Groen, chairman of the Montgomery County Democratic Party.

"I think she is fairly serious," Groen said.

Fitzgerald, a Democrat, campaigned last year for Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell. Her mother, Carol, is executive director of the Pennsylvania Society. Her father, James, was sworn in recently as a state Supreme Court judge.

Melissa Fitzgerald talks during a rally for then-Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry in Denver in October 2004. A Chestnut Hill native, the actress is considering challenging Republican Jim Gerlach in the Sixth Congressional District.

10. Lois has come close twice.
I think she will win if she tries again in '08. It's not my district, but next door. I'm in Timmy Holden's district.

14. Yeah I don't know what it was...she seemed to have alot of support
She certainly has the name recognition now, after two tries. Gerlach is hanging by a thread IMHO. It's my mom's district, soon to be mine, because we aren't buying in VA as soon as I thought.

11. This is so incredibly cool! I always liked Carol's sense of humor.
I'm sure Melissa Fitzgerald will do well in the campaign. Now if only we could convince the actresses who played Ginger and Bonnie to run. They were MY favorites! WwwwwrrrrrOOOOOOOWWWWRRRR!

15. The $2,000.00 donation
were $1,000.00 each to Arlen Specter and that was in 1998. She hasn't donated $$ to R's since.
