Murdoch warns of rise of militant Islam
Source: smh.com.au

---

Murdoch said challenges such as "alleged climate change" and the integration of China and India into the world economy were manageable.

"The two (challenges) that none of us have any answer for that I know of is the rise of militant Islam and the proliferation of nuclear weapons," Murdoch told the Milken Institute's Global Conference, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.

"I wouldn't discount at all the dangers of nuclear proliferation.

"If Iran gets away with it there will be another half a dozen countries going hell for leather to get in the same race.

3. Yep, that's the name. I don't think the "Institute" is him specifically.
But it's his money they are managing.

9. Militants of any kind don't buy newspapers...
They all cut into that bottom line of wealth and the power it buys ... a militant to him is just as likely to be, the person who might remark; why exactly are we destroying precious trees that Murdoch doesn't own, so that he can continue to practice his brand of 'free speech' by eroding basic democracy, monopolizing information, buying politicians, who in turn give him favourable conditions to run his information and media corporations and in return receive PR?

This guy don't care if he is selling the Republicans, UK Labour or the Chinese Communist government. Rupert wouldn't think twice doing business with militant Islam.

Save a Tree! Get a blog like the rest of us, Rupert -- and, asshole, it ain't just the militant Islam you should worry about...the natives ARE getting restless.

11. and if Saudi military bases in the US?
Ok folks Islam is not reassuring for some these days and in anycase, while we tolerate and respect minorities, we DONT want them to take over, right?
So, the way to understand the Arab street is to ask the following: how would we feel if we had Saudi or other Muslim country military bases in the West? I suggest we would not like it and some would rebel.
So, we should keep perspective in politics.
Cheers

13. broken record
but yes, John Kerry was very concerned about nuclear proliferation and called on this administration to get serious about it 4 years ago. Murdoch and the new "green" Friedman, who snorted their way through the 2004 election, shouldn't have a voice at the local pta, let alone the world stage.

16. "Democracy is nothing, but counting of heads. It cannot differentiate between good and bad people...
...as in this system the vote of a devout Muslim equals the vote of a frail Muslim," he said......

That was a quote about replacing meaningless democratic ideas with "real law" dictated from generations long ago. Just a measure of change in the other side of the world reported in this article;

cleric calls for 'jihad' against Musharraf regime
<snip>
Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's regime was "un-Islamic", and that it was obligatory for every Muslim to wage jihad against it for rule of law and speedy dispensation of justice.

He also said that Musharraf regime had failed to give the desired results.

"The government is un-Islamic and the present system and political hierarchy have failed to deliver," the Daily Times quoted Aziz as saying in an interview.

And with that, Musharraf agreed to establish Sharia law;

Govt accepts Lal Masjid demands: All issues settled

<snip>
The PML chief assured the mosque administration and girl students of Jamia Hasfa that the government was ready to accept all their demands, including the enforcement of Sharia.

<snip>
Responding to a question about the situation inside the mosque, the Pakistan Muslim League president denied the presence of activists of banned outfits and illegal arms in the mosque.

President Gen Musharraf had said many times in the recent past that the mosque administration had provided shelter to suicide bombers.

Two security officials, who were made hostage by the students of Jamia Hasfa last month, had also told the media that they had seen a bulk of arms and ammunitions in the mosque.

About enforcement of Shariat, the PML chief said: “No Muslim rejects the enforcement of the Islamic system in the country.”

well, I know, it's only one small region of Pakistan usurping the sectarian laws in favor of their Sharia.....
they won't expect other regions to join them.....
