Singer's toilet paper musings leave Rove untouched
Source: Guardian Unlimited

What links a triple-ply, ultra-absorbent square of quilted toilet paper and White House special adviser Karl Rove? The answer, obviously, is singer Sheryl Crow.

"I have spent the better part of this tour trying to come up with easy ways for us all to become a part of the solution to global warming," she wrote in her blog.

"I propose a limitation be put on how many squares of toilet paper can be used in any one sitting," she continued. "I think we are an industrious enough people that we can make it work with only one square per restroom visit, except, of course, on those pesky occasions where two to three could be required."

I'd prefer to not Karl Rove any slack, but maybe he had heard about Sheryl Crow's TP rationing proposal prior to their altercation at the WH Correspondents' Dinner, and he was concerned that she'd already begun implementation.

2. Is this toilet paper thing for real? (I read the Guardian article)
I have a hard time believing someone would sit around and worry about squares of toilet paper.

27. Who knows -- the assumption that it's not is based on whether one wants to sneer at global warming
It's clearly an attempt to kick at the knees of her whole point. Those who want to laugh at her will take it
the wrong way.

17. Do as I say and not as I do
From the Smoking Gun...

When it comes to Sheryl Crow's touring requirements, if it's Tuesday, this must be Bombay. Gin that is. The rock star's performance contract includes specific day-to-day instructions on what kind of booze Sheryl needs in her dressing room (TSG has never seen such attention to detail in any other concert rider we've posted). For each show, Crow requires 12 bottles of Grolsch beer, 6 bottles of "local" beer, and a bottle each of "good Australian Cabernet" and "good Merlot." As for the harder stuff, promoters are directed to purchase specific booze depending on what day of the week the concert falls, as the below rider excerpt reveals. Additionally, when the global warming warrior hits the road, her touring entourage (and equipment) travels in three tractor trailers, four buses, and six cars. Now that's a carbon footprint!

19. Rove looking better in Crowe/David splat
via Wonkette...

Laurie David: Making Karl Rove Look Good Since 2007
It’s not that we don’t appreciate all of you nice people who keep sending us the Laurie David/Sheryl Crow-Karl Rove story, hours after we posted it. We do! It just seems like David and Crow might not have been the kind-hearted ingenues they suggested they were in their Huffington post. Byron York of National Review got his own report of the confrontation.
Immediately after Dowd’s introduction, the witness says, David began lecturing Rove about global warming. This administration has done nothing on the issue, she told Rove. We face a crisis. The time to act is now. This administration has done nothing… At that point, Rove broke in to say, Well, actually we have done something. Rove mentioned global climate research, at which point David broke in herself to say, You just don’t understand. All these questions have been answered. That’s worthless. That’s useless.
Also:
In the eyewitness’ version, again, David and Crow are a bit more aggressive than their own story suggests. The eyewitness says David told Rove, You need to bring in new people to tell you the truth. Rove mentioned Dr. John Marburger, the White House science advisor. At that point, according to the eyewitness, Crow began poking Rove’s chest with her finger, demanding to know what corporations were underwriting Marburger’s work. Rove said Marburger had been in academia most of his career.
And if you really want to sympathize with Rove, hum the Curb Your Enthusiasm theme… right now.

20. please--this has nothing to do with the incident; just a way to trivialize
Crowe, and distract from Rove's vicious and telling reaction. It's disgraceful that the Guardian went along with this quickly-spewed talking point response to Crowe and piled on.

In our discourse, can we ever take anyone seriously who has an issue with tissue? The answer obviously is no. Sheryl Crowe can not be taken seriously. Move along, never dare to bother King Rove.

Stop, media. you're killing us.

21. Perhaps in honor of this Talking Points Memo should have monogrammed toilet paper rolls!
That one could give to people like Karl Rove that say "You've been TPM'd", which we could give anyone else that we want "cleaned up" out of our system of government!

Edited on Tue Apr-24-07 12:01 PM by zidzi
said in his movie "Man Of The Year".."Politicians are like diapers..they need to be changed often and for the same reason".

And America wanted to change them but rove made sure there was suffient voter suppression to ignore what America wants.
