Iraq bill conferees take out fixed withdrawal timetable
Source: The Hill

Congressional bill writers Monday have agreed to remove the fixed timetable for withdrawal of combat troops from the Iraq spending bill.

The conference committee on the bill will meet later Monday to vote on a compromise that uses the non-binding Senate version of the withdrawal language, Democratic aides said.

President Bush is still expected to veto the bill, which Congress is expected to send to him by early next week.

The conference report uses House language that sets benchmarks for the Iraqi government. It also requires Bush to announce formally when he is deploying troops that do not meet readiness standards.

3. That's disgusting!
And who's the dipshit leaking the decisions when the "conferees" haven't conferred, yet. Makes me want to bite somebody.

4. Some days, it's just embarassing
"...requires Bush to announce formally when he is deploying troops that do not meet readiness standards."

Call me naive, but wouldn't it be better to require Bush to only deploy troops that meet readiness standards?

5. Jeez...
Way to wimp out, guys.

If you KNOW the chimp will veto, send him the strongest bill you can - then he'll be on record with THAT one, and not the one where you roll over on your backs and give him his way!
