WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush said Monday that the mass shooting at Virginia Tech, the deadliest campus violence ever in this country, affects every student across the nation.

"Schools should be places of safety, sanctuary and learning," Bush said in reaction to the deaths of more than 30 people on the campus. "When that sanctuary is violated, the impact is felt in every American classroom in every American community."

Bush spoke with Gov. Timothy M. Kaine and Virginia Tech President Charles Steger.

"I told them that Laura and I and many across our nation are praying for the victims and all the members of university community that have been devastated by this terrible tragedy," Bush said in the Diplomatic Room of the White House.

3. The way he's running the country, we're all being shot.

What's the point of learning if the jobs to utilize what we are learning are being sold offshore?

We've lost our lead, we losing our economy, we're losing incentive (which used to be trumpeted by Republicans; "money is the incentive"), we're losing our future. I'm sorry, but I'm thinking about more than 32 people. That doesn't make me heartless toward those 32 and I too pray the savage animals behind it all are dealt with (one shot himself; pity he didn't start with himself and thus pre-emptively prevent shooting the others!)

If this President would state a clear course of action that truly benefits America and Americans, and actually back it up, you bet I'd side with him. But what's being said and what evidence is backing it up? I don't know, but the clear thing is that none of it is very clear! Americans want opportunities, and I have to wonder if the lack of led that guy to start shooting. It's a ghastly thought.

Lord knows I'm trying to fathom positive sides to offshoring, which is is clearly in support of, but all I'm seeing is pain. Pain of far more than just 32 people.

4. When B*$h gives human life in Iraq the same regard as human life in the States...
Then we'll talk.

Until then, the sanctimonious "culture of life" politicians that go and start wars for personal/political gain can shove it. :puke:

I really don't give a fuck what he says or pretends to care about, just more balloon juice from the comforter-in-chief. :eyes:

Did he issue his defense of the second amendment before or after these statements?

16. This asshole has no credibility.......
after he gloated about how the NRA would have their own office in the White House if he got elected.

Small minded men with ego problems who suffer from low self-worth LOVE the NRA and guns.

11. Saw that, wasn't impressed.
He had the same nervous, lying blinkity-blink that he has whenever he talks about a tragedy that ends up benefiting him & his cronies.

What's 32 more American lives, when you've already taken over 100 times that in Iraq. Not to mention the 1,000's & 1,000's more of Iraqi lives.

Stop trying to convince us you CARE! :puke:

USA TODAY

BAGHDAD, Iraq - About 70 percent of primary school students in a Baghdad neighborhood suffered from symptoms of trauma-related stress such as bed-wetting or stuttering, according to a survey conducted by the Iraqi Ministry of Health.

The survey of about 2,500 youngsters is the most comprehensive look at how the war is affecting Iraqi children, said Iraq's national mental health adviser and author of the study, Mohammed al-Aboudi.

"The fighting is happening in the streets in front of our houses and schools," al-Aboudi said. "This is very difficult for the children to adapt to."

The study is to be released next month, but al-Aboudi discussed the findings with USA TODAY.
