Three Iraqi Policemen Mistakenly Shot Dead by Coalition Troops

By Ed Johnson

April 16 (Bloomberg) -- Coalition forces in Iraq shot dead three Iraqi policemen by mistake today during a raid on a suspected terrorist cell near the town of Ramadi, the U.S. military said in a statement.

During the raid, the troops were shot at by men in two separate buildings and returned fire, according to the statement e-mailed from Baghdad.

``We do everything we can to reduce risk to friendly forces,'' said Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Garver, a spokesman for Multi National Force - Iraq, adding coalition forces did not know Iraqi police were in the area. One policeman was also wounded, the military said.

The U.S.-led coalition and Iraqi government forces are trying to contain an insurgency in Iraq and also stem sectarian violence between the Shiite and Sunni Muslim communities.

2. What can be said about these moments.
Every human life is infinitely precious. bush hates America and the world, and is participating in a born-again experiment in slaughter.

3. what are the chances they were only getting a paycheck as police, unemployment is ~75%... i heard a
soldier say on the radio that they liked to have the Iraqi soldiers on patrol because they pointed out the IED's if they were in the Humvee and going to get blown up by it too, he said that he knew where it was cause he probably planted it the night before, they always had guards on the Iraqi troops. this story is just spin to keep more bad news off the TV.. why were they shooting at the troops?? oh..just 'Friendly' fire..?? and friendly fire back??

but i dont disagree with you..

7. I gotta agree with you, Sam.
Seems kinda odd that the only four casualties
mentioned in the story are Iraqi Police officers,
doesn't it? How could that happen by accident?

No, given what we know of the current situation
there, it's much more likely that these four were
deliberately shooting at our troops, and deliberately
shot in return.

Then, the propaganda machine decided to call it a
"friendly fire accident" after Iraqi Police ID was
found on the bodies. Spin and more spin.

Investigation shows individuals killed not Iraqi policemen

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Preliminary investigation into an incident on an April 16 Coalition Forces raid in Ramadi revealed that individuals killed were not Iraqi policemen as originally reported.

During the investigation it was determined that the three men killed and one wounded were not Iraqi police members as originally believed. Actual Iraqi police operating in the area were notified by Coalition Forces while they were planning the raid. Iraqi police in the area were again notified immediately before Coalition Forces entered the target area.

During the course of the operation, ground forces began receiving intense small arms fire from armed men in two separate buildings. Using appropriate self-defense measures, Coalition Forces returned fire.

The wounded individual identified the group as Iraqi Police and the individuals utilized a vehicle that resembled local Iraqi Police vehicles.

Investigation later revealed the armed individuals were dressed in dishdashas, which is traditional male Arabic garb, and not in Iraqi police uniforms.
