4. Sanchez said the bodies were recognizable...
when asked what state the bodies were in. The reporter noted that Iraquis on the street wanted proof that it was them. Sanchez said they would have more info. tomorrow.

So, it seems this statement is not being made based on DNA

5. Excellent news if true.
After so many false alarms you must be skeptical but more persuasive then the general's announcement was a CNN report about Iraqis celebrating in Baghdad.

Whatever you think about the war, these two Saddam sons were monsters. The world is better off with their removal. Now if only Idi Amin would join them.

How do we know they weren't captured earlier and then just conveniently killed today just to get the heat off shrub and the WH over the intelligence flap? :tinfoilhat:

8. It still smells funny to me...both of them together?...they dislike each
other (have heard 'hate' used to describe their relationships), and even if they were working together, both at the same time/place doesn't make any sense and the rather opulent home they were supposedl in is the house of one of their relatives...and it was a SIX HOUR 'engagement'...to kill 4 people? They would be worth a hell of a lot more alive than dead so why wouldn't the troops just surround the place and work out a way to capture them? Why the big emergency?
:grr:

19. it's funny what having 100,000 troops hunting for you...
does to "family solidarity".

From what I heard at the news conference, they tried to get them to surrender...but they refused, preferring to die under arms. I can't say that I blame them. If it truly was them, it's the first thing I've heard of them doing that makes me respect them at all.

9. They never would have been taken alive...
If indeed they WERE killed today, good riddance to two sick, evil, greedy oafs! It's the ONLY good news to come out of Iraq in some time...

BUT, unlike what Rush and "Sarcastic Sean" will say, it does NOT make the losses we've suffered "worth it". Only true "Top Ten Conservative Idiots" would ever THINK that, let alone utter it on the air!

I guess "Chip' Rove's got the socks ready to go to stuff back into Dub's flight suit crotch...and "Tweety" Matthews is equally ready to drool over it! :eyes:

Too bad (for THEM, of course--not for US!) the damage has already been done...and their credibility already lost! :grr:

B-)

13. never be taken alive? Well, we can't know that for sure, can we? When
wackos barricade themselves the normal procedure is to at least TRY to negotiate...if it fails, well they tried. They could have kept them surrounded and arranged some kind of go-between...hell, even offer them some false promises. But now that I'm thinking further, if they had been captured (if it really even IS them), they would probably have been tortured. What a tangled web.

15. Even if it's true...
...so what? If Daddy Hussein is still out there then the world just became a little scarier as I see it. These are people that believe in "blood revenge" and the death of two sons is not going to taken lightly. I don't want to be an alarmist but post-9/11 this administration has used any little excuse to raise the national threat level to orange when it suited their purposes. You can bet that they WON'T raise the threat level if Uday and Qusay are in fact dead. They want to perpetuate the fiction that they are making the world safer despite the fact that Osama is still out there somewhere, as well as Saddam who may have just lost two sons to the "infidels". I feel safer already.

Don't you have to have prints on file to compare them to? And if they do dna analysis, wouldn't the same be true? When did the gov't get samples of the brothers hussein dna?

30. Getting prints from papers, files and possessions is easy, imo.
DNA does not have to be from the brothers. A close relative can give just as much certainty, as long as other suspects can be ruled out by other means.

People look different dead.

Also, they were described as "pretty badly shot up" on the radio.

To answer someone else's question above, it was the "Ace of Diamonds" who identified them. I think his name is Mahmoud.

27. It is bull...
Firstly, why would these two men have only ONE bodyguard? Second, if the ID is based on appearance alone then it is likely faulty, as Saddam wasn't the only one to have doubles.

Here is my prediction: It will turn out that these two men were doubles of Uday and Qusay either sent out as a diversion, or more likely abandoned by their former bosses and who, knowing that if they showed their faces they'd be killed, were just trying to hide out until the heat settled a little.

35. I agree
These two were #'s 1 and 2 on Iraq's Most Wanted. Why would they just be hanging out with one bodyguard, in a relatives house? Did they think the heat had died down? Smells fishy. The timing though is PERFECT for BushCo. Funny how "lucky" these guys are.

29. CNN: TRUMPED headline is distasteful and reeks of nationalism.

- On each side of the bold 'Trumped' headline is the picture of these two men on playing cards. One is the ace of clubs and the other the ace of hearts. Has CNN sunk to such a base level that they have to dehumanize and sensationalize the death of Bush's* 'evildoers'?

- CNN has never mentioned all the INNOCENT people Bush* has killed in his quest to 'Get Saddam'. Thousands of innocent human beings have been mutilated, sacrificed and slaughtered in the name of the war on terrorism. In the name of empire.

- Bush* outright lied about the need for this nation to invade and conquer Iraq. He has replaced the justice system and international law with vindictiveness and revenge. He has given us a coarse society that's encourage to cheer on his version of christians being eaten by lions or witches burned at the stake.

- The Bush* junta has become the judge, jury and executioner. They decide who is evil...if they'll be assassinated or bombed or targeted with a laser guided missile. They'll decide who deserves rights, due process and which 'evildoers' will be executed after a kangaroo court.

- These are not the actions of a fair and decent society or a nation of laws. The Junta doesn't have the right to accuse others of crimes and then have them killed before they can offer a defense in court.

33. How about the four U.S. soldiers killed today???
The Pukes are acting like this is a gargantuan military victory, something like on a par with V-J day or V-E day or some such shit. Let's get real: our guys killed Saddam's sons. Big f'ing deal. Saddam is still out there. Osama is still out there. We killed TWO INDIVIDUALS. I still haven't seen the Iraqis dancing in the streets and greeting us with flowers. The guerilla war goes on. This is one day, one news story. Our pResident is still a fucking liar.

The timing of this is ridiculously suspect. And I hate to say it, but I'm at the point where I don't believe one damn thing that comes out of the mouthpieces of this administration. If it's true, hell, it's good news. We can be glad over it (to the extent that we can be "glad" about any death...). The Pukes, of course, are acting like this news negates any/all concern about WMDs, the uranium lie, the other lies, etc. "HEY: WE GOT QUSAY AND USAY. So you Dems are all full of shit. WE WIN." To which I say, "BULLSHIT."

Big fucking deal.

Tuesday, July 22, 2003 Posted: 5:46 PM EDT (2146 GMT)

"Sanchez said soldiers from the 101st Airborne's 2nd Brigade were fired upon when they approached the house.

"The division subsequently employed multiple weapon systems to subdue the suspects, who had barricaded themselves inside the house and continued to resist detention fiercely," he said. (Gallery: The firefight scene)

Master Sgt. Kelly Tyler, a spokeswoman for the 101st Airborne at its headquarters in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, said soldiers at the post were "absolutely proud" and "absolutely giddy."

"The 101st kicks ass," she said. "The 101st has a proud history of military tradition, and this just adds to that tradition."

http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/07/22/sprj.irq.sons/index.html

First off, any real spokesperson for the Army isn't going to say "the 101st kicks ass" to an international news correspondent. Second, blasting the hell out of a barricaded house with "multiple weapons systems" doesn't strike me as adding to the "proud history of military tradtion" of the 101st Airborne. Sounds more like bully tactics to me.
