State Supreme Court upholds Killen conviction

The Mississippi Supreme Court upheld today the manslaughter convictions of former Ku Klux Klan leader Edgar Ray Killen in the slayings of three civil rights workers in 1964.

Killen, 82, was convicted on June 21, 2005 — exactly 41 years after Michael Schwerner, James Chaney and Andrew Goodman were killed.

Killen was sentenced to serve 20 years for each count, with the three sentences to run consecutively, for a total sentence of 60 years.

The Supreme Court rejected Killen’s arguments that he had nothing to do with the slayings. The court said testimony throughout his 2005 trial showed Killen directed the Klan attack on the three men and gloated about it afterward.

3. Sorry, I Just Can't Get Excited About Killing An 82 Year Old Man
Actually, I don't like the idea of killing anyone no matter how egregious the crime. I wouldn't even like to see Bush, Cheney or the rest killed in spite of all the murders they are responsible for. Jailed yes, killed no.
