White House bucks Crist on national insurance
Source: Miami Herald

BY LESLEY CLARK
April 11, 2007

WASHINGTON --
Florida Gov. Charlie Crist picked up key Senate support Wednesday for a commission to study the creation of a national catastrophic insurance program, but ran into opposition from the White House.

Crist was the lead witness at a Senate Banking Committee hearing looking at ways to address rising insurance costs.

But while the committee chairman, Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., expressed support for creating a commission, the chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors told lawmakers the administration would be opposed to creating a new federal program to backstop catastrophic insurance.

2. Gov. Crist has removed just about everything possible that Jeb put
into action, i.e. removed head of Dept. of Education, shaking up the vouchers program, etc. Crist also decided to "not" attend a pre-election visit by GWB in Florida, went to South Beach instead. As a Dem, I will tell you he's the best thing to hit Florida in a long time....No love from George to Charlie, and Jeb is a not so good memory...

4. Is there a secret warehouse where Republicans like Crist are stored?
It seems like there used to be more of them. Every once in a while, one still gets loose and wins an election.

5. I think I like this Charlie Crist
He's a Republican, yeah. For that, he strikes me as being amazingly lifelike. Good on 'im.
John
Who's always said that, for this country to survive, we need smart D's and R's. I know plenty of both (and so do my Republican friends).
