Nation's Threat Level Rising to Orange

Nation's Threat Level Rising to Orange

By JENNIFER C. KERR, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - The government is raising the national threat warning from yellow, the midpoint on its five-color scale, to orange, a federal official said Sunday.

Tom Ridge, the homeland security secretary, planned to discuss the chance at a midafternoon news conference at the agency's headquarters. A department official confirmed the elevated threat level but declined to provide details before Ridge's appearance.

U.S. officials by the end of last week were telling holiday travelers to be vigilant about the threat of terrorist attacks. The warning was prompted in part by a raised level of ominous intercepted communications that has not quieted for months.

The significance of the sustained level of intelligence "chatter" is unclear, the officials said.

Significance ? - well, ALOT of Canadians ain't gonna be going South for starters

Yup yup, we feel ALOT safer now George

1. Gosh, so maybe the Dean Bashers owe an apology?
Maybe? Just maybe Dean was correct when he said the capture of Saddam has not made us safer. In fact, it appears Dean was more correct than the POTUS. Imagine that!

2. they can't have it both ways
If we got Saddam and our country is safer the color should be going down. So Dean is right about us not being safer....Dubya is wrong.

4. Just want to create fear to control the population or take attention
away from some issue. They have not even funded first responders and yet they passed a huge tax cut for the filthy rich.

6. Does this strike anybody else as odd -
In NY ABC broke coverage of Ice Skating to cover the Terror level announcement but NBC and FOX did not (they both had football games on).
So I have to wonder just how serious is this really if two major networks don't bother to cover it.

7. I Know This Is Tinfoil Hat Territory, But...
could this be an attempt to mask a, reemerging, poor economy? If and when poor X-mas sales numbers are released they can just chalk it up to the terror alert five days before. We have already heard retailers claim they think that shoppers are waiting until last minute to scoop up the best deals. Now they will be able to say that shoppers were waiting but didn’t go out for fear of a terra attack. It’s just a thought, but it’s a nagging one.
