5. She is quitting for one or two reasons:
1. She has been told she is a liability and must go.

Or

2. She has decided that taking the 5th is just not going to be accepted in such broad brush strokes, as envisioned by her lawyer, and she has to dump her guts to stay out of jail.

26. Fat F***ing Chance. To put it in legal/technical terms.
She has material knowledge of persons, practices and events. If she thinks this will obviate her having to testify, she really needs new legal council.

Look at it this way: You were somewhere where a big drug deal went down, and it is likely you were involved. The prosecutor wants your testimony. But you moved away. You tell the prosecutor "No way! I don't live there anymore!".

Will this wash with the prosecutor?

Perhaps. Right after you fly to the moon by flapping your arms.

By Susan Crabtree
April 06, 2007

House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-Mich.) continued to press for the testimony of a top aide to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales after she abruptly resigned Friday. ~snip~

“Chairman Conyers remains committed to questioning Monica Goodling, especially with this new development,” a Conyers’ spokesperson said in a written statement issued Friday evening. “Her involvement and general knowledge of what happened makes her a valuable piece to this puzzle." ~snip~

"I am hereby submit my resignation to the Office of the Attorney General, effective April 7, 2007. It has been an honor to have served at the Department of Justice for the past five years," Goodling said.

"May God bless you richly as you continue your service to America," she concluded.

21. link:Gonzales aide Goodling to resign
Monica Goodling, the counsel and White House liaison to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, says in a letter that she will resign, effective Saturday.

Goodling has been on a leave of absence. Her lawyers have told Congress she would invoke the Fifth Amendment protections against self-incrimination if called to testify about the firings of eight U.S. attorneys.

Goodling was one of several aides closely involved in planning the firings, which raised a furor in Washington over their apparent political motivation.

39. Gonzales aide who asserted Fifth resigns (Goodling)
Source: Yahoo News

By LARA JAKES JORDAN, Associated Press Writer
18 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - A top aide to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales abruptly quit Friday, almost two weeks after telling Congress she would not testify about her role in the firings of federal prosecutors.

There was no immediate reason given, but Monica M. Goodling's refusal to face Congress had intensified a controversy that threatens Gonzales' job.

She resigned in a three-sentence letter to Gonzales, calling her five-year stint at Justice an honor and telling him, "May God bless you richly as you continue your service to America."

Asserting her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination, Goodling had rejected demands for a private interview with a House committee investigating the firings of eight U.S. attorneys.

43. Maybe Ms. Goodling just couldn't balance the demands of her job in
Washington with her overriding impulse to join a bowling league back home.

Too many people calling her up, taking chunks out of her schedule.

So she had to just sit down one day and ask herself which set of people is owed her allegiance?

The sacking of the 8 US Attorneys? Oh, of course not. This has NOTHING to do with any of that.

It's all about the bowling. The sounds of the balls smashing into the pins, a cheesburger, fries and Coke, the laughter of her fundie pals back home.

Nostalgia rides a tall horse.

The hardball thugs would have to get access to that attorney's office and grab that deposition. I'm guessing it's already in a file, written and signed, or even on videotape.

If she's a true Christian she'll tell the truth.

If she's a fundie rat, I expect Senator Leahy will have the last word.

47. will she get to fade like Foley?
Goodling's lawyers have asked Rep. John Conyers (news, bio, voting record), chairman of the
House Judiciary Committee, not to compel her to appear at a public hearing knowing of her intention to invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions.

Her lawyers have said such a hearing would be a perjury trap for her. They note allegations that Goodling misled Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty before he testified to Congress about the ousters, causing him to give an incomplete and possibly inaccurate account.

Goodling's mother, Cindy Fitt of Osceola Mills, Pa., said the resignation had been anticipated. "She told me I'm to say 'no comment' for everything," the mother said in a brief telephone interview.

56. I don't just want her gone. I want her testimony, sworn and in public
and I want all the rest of the temporary USA's kicked out. About one third of the USA's I believe.

Then I want an investigation into every single USA still sitting. I want to know what agenda they are pushing or are being asked to push.

I want a justice system back. I want a justice system for everyone not "just us GOPers".

59. What the heck is a perjury trap?
I've heard this term used in th emedia, but what is the definition of it?

She must be guilty of a crime, or she would not refuse to testify. In that instance, I can see why she would take the fifth. There is no reasonable excuse to refuse to exonerate ones self. She should be smart enoough by now to know she would be thrown to the dogs in a second if the need arises.....and maybe it has!

"perjury trap," WAAAAAH! It's basically, "no accountablity for us, we don't do accountability, that's trapping us." Idiots!

(pûr'jə-rē)(trăp):a ninety million dollar investigation that discovers nothing about which the investigation was started for, six years after the fact but yields a minor legal blip that radio talk show hosts can howl about for a decade. Also known as the clenis. (Origins solidly embedded in mythology)

66. Top Gonzales aide resigns, won't testify
Top Gonzales aide resigns, won't testify
By Lara Lakes Jordan - The Associated Press
WASHINGTON -- A top aide to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales abruptly quit Friday, almost two weeks after telling Congress she would not testify about her role in the firings of federal prosecutors.

Monica M. Goodling, the Justice Department's liaison to the White House, gave no reason for her resignation. Since she was at the center of the firings, Goodling's refusal to testify has intensified questions about whether the U.S. attorney dismissals were proper and heightened the furor that threatens Gonzales' own job.

"It has been an honor to have served at the Justice Department for the past five years," Goodling wrote Gonzales, advising him of her resignation effective Saturday.

"May God bless you richly as you continue your service to America," added Goodling, a native of the York Haven area of York County.

The Justice Department confirmed the resignation in a letter to two Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee investigating the firings. Gonzales and Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty had removed themselves from any personnel decisions related to Goodling, according to the letter from Acting Assistant Attorney General Richard A. Hertling.

71. What kind of Christian takes the Fifth?
Isn't the mantra of Christ "the truth shall set you free"? If she was a real Christian, she would go before Congress, tell the truth, and let the chips fall where they may.

72. Is she gonna sing now? Medoubts it.
Her parting gift: "May God bless you richly as you continue your service to America,"

:puke:

With anything BushCo, substitute 'destruction of' for 'service to'
