U.S. could crack Iran air defence-Russian generals
Source: Reuters

MOSCOW, April 5 (Reuters) - The United States would suffer losses if it attacked Iran but weight of numbers would ensure it eventually achieved air supremacy, Russian generals said on Thursday.

"According to our estimates, Iran's air defence system is pretty strong," General Yuri Solovyov, head of Moscow's air defences, told a news conference.

"Iran's weapons, among others, include our anti-aircraft systems which allow them to fight all types of flying objects currently in service in the U.S. army ... Besides, we all remember our specialists have trained them since Soviet times."

...

On Tuesday, Russian Chief of General Staff Yuri Baluyevsky was quoted as saying the U.S. could damage Iran's military and industrial potential but "it is impossible to win".

1. Israel with U.S. backing attacked, invaded, and destroyed much

of Lebanon last summer and DID NOT WIN.

The U.S. and many willing countries attacked, invaded, and destroyed Iraq for four years and HAVE NOT WON.

The U.S. is hell bent on attacking, invading, and destroying 'parts' of Iran (if anyone can trust the U.S. on 'parts') and WILL NOT WIN.

And then there was Vietnam.

What we need is to have WAXMAN, FEINGOLD, and all active Democrats DROP WHAT THEY ARE DOING and work on NOT ALLOWING AN ATTACK, INVASION, and DESTRUCTION of Iran.

Now is the time for Sen. Hillary Clinton to draw a line in the sand - and all the other candidates. No apologies four years from now. WE WON"T BUY ANYMORE POST-DEATH APOLOGIES. SENATORS CONGRESSPEOPLE - GET TO WORK AND TELL US WHAT WE CAN DO TO HELP YOU.

2. Hehehe
Sounds like some in Russia are just waiting for the hammer to fall.
Then, they can jump in.
...And China can call our debt.
Time to learn some Mandarin and/or Russian...

3. I wonder how well those systems would work if a high atmosphere
nuke was detonated, generating an EMP that knocks out all Iranian electronics in a 500 mile area, half hour before the bombers arrive.

4. As if the US weren't an international pariah now
Using a nuke in a first strike, even a high-atmosphere airburst, would probably cost us the few allies we have left.

9. Yeah, there's nothing you can really put past the creeps in the WH!
But as another poster basically said, "as if the world doesn't hate us enough now!"

I hope someone in the military if not the Exec branch will consider that we could end up fighting every other country in the world.

8. So? We own the air in Iraq, always have.

I expect he is right, both as the the eventual result, and the greater expense, but so what? It doesn't make it any less a stupid thing to do.

10. I don't think that the US would have any problem establishing air supremacy
and it's not because of numbers either. Our air force has the best technology and training in the world. We are experts at destroying shit, it's the rebuilding that we have problems with.

The Russians are just propping up their weapon systems, probably so they can sell them to other countries that are 'threats' to America.

11. They could be warning about an eventual attack, too... Cautioning.
Seems there's getting to be some "pushback" on the Bushies evil plans for Iran. At least I hope so.

12. It doesn't matter
So you knock out Iran's Air defense ... and it won't be on the cheap. Then what? Everything you want is in heavily fortified bunkers that no nuclear bunker can bust.

Nuclear Bunker busters don't work

Then after all the bombing, you have to maintain a presence to insure you can calculate the damage, which would be mountain ranges far more vast than those in Afghanistan. Good Luck, Captain America. Don't forget the cape.

And of course, Iran doesn't have a contingent plan. :sarcasm:

A lot of good that does us.
