Bush acknowledges Americans weary of Iraq war
By Steve Holland

FORT IRWIN, Calif., April 4 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush admitted on Wednesday that Americans are weary of the Iraq war and defended his decision to send more troops to Iraq before a number of soldiers about to deploy there.

Dozens of camouflage-wearing troops sat quietly at their lunch tables, some joined by family members, as Bush spoke during a visit to this remote base in the high desert of California, where Iraqi-American actors train soldiers to understand Iraq's cultural differences.

"It's a tough war," Bush said in a subdued tone. "The American people are weary of this war."

Bush's comments reflected recognition of the unpopularity of the war, in which more than 3,200 U.S. troops have been killed, as he tries to persuade the Democratic-led U.S. Congress to approve about $100 billion to fund wars in Iraq and Afghanistan without attaching a withdrawal timetable.

Defending his decision to add about 30,000 extra troops to Iraq, Bush said he wants to bring stability to Baghdad and avoid a spread of the conflict into the region that could endanger U.S. ally Israel.

3. "The American people are weary of this war."
Hay, I found something that Bush is good at!

Stating the obvious.

4. The "surge" is now 30,000 troops?
Almost casually inserted in the story is the startling fact that the surge has gone from an original 21,000 troops to 30,000. Hard to fathom where these folks are going to come from without extending even further an already dangerously overextended military.

6. The American people are tired of this war.
"Weary" gives the impression that if we just took a nice nap and then woke up refreshed, the war in Iraq would be OK.

The phrasing "weary" doesn't allow for the thoughtful opinions of the opposition and would seem indicative of the lack of stamina for the pursuit of the righteous (snicker) goals of the Bush Administration.

George Bush, in his speeches, is looking for the "little blue pill" to use on his electorate, that will allow his neocon friends to lustfully continue their advance towards global hegemony.

9. Troops listened "quietly"

10. I know of a soldier at Ft. Irwin who is part of the training mission
Most of the soldiers at Fort Irwin have already been to Iraq or Afghanistan, or both. They do not want to return. From the article, some have been notified, but not everyone. Many are waiting to see if they will be passed up. They hope they will be.

After the soldier I know finishes his current assignment, he will get out of the army. That will be next summer. Here's hoping he can avoid another deployment to Iraq.

11. so he admits now that (in keeping with the PNAC doctrine)
American troops are dying to serve Israel's interests.

Now if we can just get him to admit that it's all about controlling the supply of oil . . .

13. * is less noble than shit.
I read yesterday that a woman in China fell out of a window and was unhurt when she landed in a pile of excrement that was being cleaned out of a blocked sewer.

* never helped another person in his life, much less saved someone from injury.
