Judge fired amid Ecuador deadlock
Source: BBC

An Ecuadorean judge has reinstated 57 sacked legislators only to be removed himself, as the political deadlock in the South American nation continued.

Provincial judge Juan Ramirez issued an injunction blocking the 7 March move by an electoral tribunal which unseated more than half the country's lawmakers.

But the tribunal has now fired him, saying he acted illegally.

The sacked lawmakers oppose a referendum on constitutional change backed by President Rafael Correa.

1. The laws are all written by the fascists and corporatists who have been looting
Ecuador and oppressing its vast poor majority for decades. Rafael Correa is a great president and a real leftist (majorityist) reformer. His recent victory (with 60% of the vote) was a staggering defeat for the Bush Junta and its rightwing Ecuadoran allies. Correa needs a new Constitution that is written with majority input and that everyone can support.

One of the stories I love about Correa is that, when he was asked, towards the end of the presidential election campaign last year, what he thought of Hugo Chavez's remark at the UN that Bush is "the devil," he replied that it is "an insult to the devil." He had been in a neck and neck race with the richest man in Ecuador until then. After this, his numbers soared and he won by a landslide.

Correa is a US-educated leftist economist, and an ally of Evo Morales in Bolivia and Hugo Chavez in Venezuela. These three are transforming the Latin American political landscape with their Bolivarian revolution, and its major principles of self-determination for Latin American countries, regional cooperation, and social justice.
