Poll backs subpoenas of Bush aides
Source: USA Today/Gallup

WASHINGTON — Americans overwhelmingly support a congressional investigation into White House involvement in the firing of eight U.S. attorneys, and they say President Bush and his aides should answer questions about it without invoking executive privilege.

In a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll taken Friday-Sunday, respondents said by nearly 3-to-1 that Congress should issue subpoenas to force White House officials to testify.

There is skepticism about the motives of both the administration and congressional Democrats:

•By 53%-26%, respondents say the U.S. attorneys were dismissed primarily for political reasons, not because they weren't doing their jobs well — as Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has said.

•By 59%-30%, they say Democrats are investigating the dismissals mostly for political advantage, not because of ethical concerns.

1. But those 53 or 59% are wrong... they don't KNOW the facts
We know those 26-30% that are diehard Republicans would NEVER be against getting to the truth.

3. They all work for us
We have a right to hear what they have to say for themselves.

4. makes me wonder how the Democrats could investigate NOT for political advantage
There has to be some crossover in the 53% who think politics was behind the firings and the 59% who think Democrats are not primarily concerned with ethics. Is it perhaps that they just want someone else to handle it outside the political sphere? The independent counsel statute is gone, and I don't know how congress is supposed to investigate ethics (let alone criminality) of this matter without political inductance.

5. Hahahahahaa!! I love it!

•By 59%-30%, they say Democrats are investigating the dismissals mostly for political advantage, not because of ethical concerns.

Like the rethugs wouldn't take advantage if the ball were still in their court??? heheheeeeeee!! I call bull poop!

On the other hand, it's true what the GOPers disbelieve. It has EVERYTHING to do with ethical concerns. They will never understand progressives' true motives, preferring to think we suck like they do!
