Cuba: Minister Announces Increase in Oil Drilling
Source: Escambray Digital, newspaper of Sancti Spiritus province, Cuba.

Cuba will substantially increase the number of its oil wells on land, in coastal areas and in deep waters in its exclusive zone in the Gulf of Mexico, said Basic Industry Minister Yadira Garcia on Tuesday.

Garcia made the announcement at the Second Earth Sciences Convention - Geosciences 2007, taking place at the Havana Convention Center with the participation of 700 national and foreign specialists.

-

Garcia said that today it is impossible to conceive of a serious and responsible discussion about the future of oil and gas in the world without incorporating into the analysis concern for the potential reserves to be used rationally.

"This will give time for humanity to develop known alternative energy sources and discover new ones", she said.

Oil reserves to be used rationally?

Give time for humanity to develop known alternative energy sources and discover new ones?

Conserve & develop alternatives? What kind of ideology is this? Damned commies. ;)

1. So what will their casus belli to invade Cuba be?
One of the 9/11 hijackers had a beard like Castro's? Or, we need to protect Cuba from same-sex marriage?

2. Well
I think they were counting on starting trouble after Castro left the presidency...but that has happened and the country is running just fine. The fact is, the vast majority of Cubans support the revolution and would fight any invaders tooth and nail. It would be a really ugly invasion and I would venture to guss there would be attacks on American soil since they are so close. The rest of the world would condemn us and some of the oil producing countries like Venezuela would probably stop selling to us. It would be an absolute disaster to attack Cuba.

3. It couldn't do the U.S. any good internationally, for sure. There IS that David & Goliath image.
So much bullying from the U.S. against Cuba has gone on under the public's radar, through continuous small acts of terrorism, spread over 45+ years, and the crippling economic warfare of the embargo.

I would hope Bush realizes any overt violence which could be tracked directly to him would be far more trouble than it's worth...

4. Boy it was a good post until the end.
The smug, condescending remarks about "humanity" undermines any credibility he had. He's the Basic Industry (oil) minister, and he's drilling for oil. Good for him, good for Cuba. The sanctimony undercut his remarks, IMO.
