Carter and Dole find common ground on Bush's policy and prospects
By STEVE KRASKE The Kansas City Star

LAWRENCE - They once were on opposing sides on many of the great issues of the day.

But on Monday, former President Jimmy Carter of Georgia, a Democrat, and former Sen. Bob Dole of Kansas, a Republican, came surprising close together on two hot issues: The Bush administration's policy on pre-emptive war and the uncertainty of President Bush's prospects for re-election.

1. wow
Kind of unusual for a Republican to be out of lockstep with the pack. I suppose Dole may be viewed as untouchable however, and can say what he wants.

4. Probably
But did you watch his absolutely disgraceful commentary on 60 minutes. The man was corrupt in the Senate as the architect of Reagan’s Tax cuts, and disingenuous when he allowed the GOP to sell him as a war hero, and blame his wound for his loss of use of arm (the blame lies with the VA's use of sulfa drugs in treating his wound as he well knows.)

As a scholarship athlete at the University of Kansas, he effectively mimicked the average Republican of the time (i.e. Ronnie Reagan, John Wayne) and dodged the draft in 1942, 3 and 4, and finally got called up and then only to be sent to a backwater. Twice wounded (once when he fragged himself with a stupidly thrown grenade, he was finally sent home with a moderate injury, and the medical profession screwed his treatment up (so like what’s new there.)

Hero, my aching ass! Dole is and was a joke, whose only achievement was 1) to cheat on his first wife and ignore his only child as she grew up, 2) Marry a truly antebellum Bitch, who he endlessly promoted, and 3) act in extreme poor taste ((after all his years of being a GOP moralizing scold) in being the Viagra shill man for Pfizer!

His opinion means ZERO!

2. bush is a radical
He and his gang are radical and not any
sort of conservative. The have turned their
backs on the traditions of American justice
and collective defence. He is deconstucting
the world build by the WWII generation as
fast as he can.

The WWII generation is fading fast from the
world and the baby bombers have not made a
great showing so far.

3. I only wish Sen. Dole's
"moderation" would resonate with his bushbot wife, Sen. Dole.

5. I Am So Glad to Finally See Prominent Republicans Breaking Ranks

This is very, very important.

Equally important is that the Republicans defending Bush are being backed into saying more and more ridiculous things in his defense. It not only starts to become obvious after awhile, but it's very wearing to be on the defensive with a weak case.

10. I think it is because he no longer is in office
His wife was strangely quiet about it in the article. She is still in office though. How would it look if the Republicans were to turn on the Dole family because Bob disagreed with Bush?
