Patience for Iraq war waning, say leaders
Source: Examiner.com

Four years into the Iraq war, all sides in the bitter debate agree that President Bush’s “troop surge” plan represents the final drop of American patience for the war. If Iraqis fail to control the violence, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said, “The American taxpayer has a reasonable expectation that we will bring our people home.”

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who has steadfastly supported the mission, said Republicans’ patience is nearly exhausted, too.

“This is the last chance for the Iraqis,” the Kentucky Republican said in an interview with The Examiner. “The last chance for them to step up and demonstrate that they can do their part to save their country.”

<snip>

“At some point, you got to say to them, ‘Congratulations, Saddam is dead,’ ” (Trent) Lott said. “We brought Baghdad under control. You folks got to decide whether you just want to kill each other forever or have a real government and peace and freedom and democracy.”

1. Well, you could knock me over with a feather!
I actually agree with something Trent Lott said!

"At some point, you got to say to them, ‘Congratulations, Saddam is dead,’ ” (Trent) Lott said. “We brought Baghdad under control. You folks got to decide whether you just want to kill each other forever or have a real government and peace and freedom and democracy."

That pretty much sums it up.

So why aren't we saying this to the Iraqis, and why aren't we pulling our troops out and bringing them home?

This war has lasted longer than WWII! Sh!t or get off the pot, Iraqi government!

4. The Iraqis had a real government, they had peace, and they had the freedom
to at least go shopping, to attend schools, to have a wedding, without being blown to bits before we invaded.

So I wonder where the responsibiltiy is on Lott's part. As i recall, he supported the invasion and occupation.

I guess he believes he was doing the Iraqis a favor by shock and aweing them?

The Iraqi government is our baby. We made it. We made the rules, we fired the security personel because they were baathist's.

I can't see how any of that is the fault of the Iraqis. in fact, I'm long ago convinced that we want the breakup of Iraq. We just don't want the responsibility.
