BAGHDAD (CNN) -- Five U.S. soldiers died in Iraq violence on Thursday, one in Salaheddin province and four in eastern Baghdad, the U.S. military said.

A soldier died in an explosion on Thursday in Salaheddin province "as a result of injuries sustained from an explosion," the military said in a Friday press release.

The service member was a member of a Task Force Lightning contingent "attacked while conducting combat operations." Another soldier was wounded.

The military on Thursday said that four U.S. soldiers died when two roadside bombs targeted their vehicles as they were returning from cordon-and-search operations in eastern Baghdad.

On Wednesday a U.S. Marine serving in Anbar province died "in a noncombat related incident," the military announced Friday. With the deaths 3,209, U.S. troops have been killed since the war in Iraq began. (Posted 6:22 a.m.)
