Contrary to earlier reports, the Medical Center in Enterprise has not been evacuated.

Coach Nathan McDaniel from Daleville H.S. is at Enterprise H.S. and says the "roof is collapsed in, roofs are off."

McDaniel says some students may still be trapped inside. "It's truly devestating, if you haven't seen (anything like this) pray you don't." He says cars are turned over and they have asked all trained medical personnel to get to the scene....(more including links to videos)

there are no serious injuries. I don't understand why the schools didn't let out early though. Most counties in north Alabama where I live closed up around lunch. There is no reason for schools to remain open during severe weather.

11. Laz used to live there - a few blocks from the high school that was just hit -

The high school was in one of the few flat areas in the area; mostly low hills and gullys in the area. The medical center is only a little under a mile away. He was basically located halfway between the medical center and the high school. We have CNN up and apparently there's some cosmetic damage on the medical center itself; so I'm wondering how the apartment/condos that are in that area fared. There's a big cluster of them in the area.

Whew - reports are only of injuries; apparently they had enough warning to get everyone under cover.
Tornadoes aren't common in that area; especially during this time of year.

Enterprise Hit By Storms; High School Suffers Severe Damage

Enterprise, Ala., Mar.1, 2007 -- Severe weather has hit the Enterprise area. One witness says he saw a large tornado. Hunter Scott says power lines are down, you can't get into downtown Enterprise. He says there are roofs off of houses, "It's pretty devestated down there."

At Enterprise Ledger they are reporting injuries at Enterprise H.S. There are problems with cell phones and they do not know the extent of the injuries. The Ledger says there are cars turned over with windows blown outs, school buses turned over.

Parents of students at Enterprise H.S. should go to Hillcrest Baptist to locate a student. A pharmacy owner on Main Street in Enterprise says Enterprise H.S. closed at 1 p.m. but he believes there are some people still trapped. The tornado hit at 1:30 p.m.

4,000 people without power in Enterprise according to Alabama Power.

There is now softball sized hail falling on the Quad at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and a tornado warning for Tuscaloosa County.
The University was closed at 2:30 today, but a grad student I know called to say he was walking home and that traffic was bumper to bumper in the city right now around campus...
