Pennsylvania — A middle school principal accused of selling crystal methamphetamine from his office after school and on weekends was arrested after police found the drug on his desk, authorities said Wednesday.

There was no indication that John Acerra sold the drug to students at Nitschmann Middle School, where he was arrested Tuesday, said Dennis Mihalopoulos, an agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Police said they began investigating Acerra in early February after an informant told them the principal was using and distributing the drug.

Acerra, 50, who was in custody in lieu of bail, has an unlisted phone number, and it wasn’t clear whether he had an attorney. No one answered the door Wednesday at his modest rowhouse along a narrow alley in Allentown.

'Bizarre' details emerge in Bethlehem principal's arrest

From furtive parking lot deals to sex toys and porn, officials describe drug-fueled path of educator.

When police entered the office of Nitschmann Middle School Principal John Acerra to arrest him for allegedly selling crystal methamphetamine, they found the 50-year-old educator naked and watching gay pornography with sex toys nearby, sources say.

Police also found a glass drug pipe and $200 in marked money on the desk, just minutes after an informant wearing a wire arranged to buy meth from Acerra about 6 p.m. Tuesday, officials said.

Bethlehem schools Superintendent Joseph Lewis said law enforcement officials called him shortly after the arrest, but no one told him Acerra was naked or watching pornography.

''This is all bizarre,'' Lewis said Wednesday afternoon after a news conference in his office at the Bethlehem Area School District.

Middle School Principal Accused Of Selling Meth

(CBS) BETHLEHEM, Pa. A Pennsylvania Middle School principal is facing felony drug charges for allegedly selling crystal meth.

Authorities said 50-year-old John Acerra, Principal of Nitchmann Middle School in Bethlehem, was arrested in his office after allegedly selling methamphetamine to police informants three times in the past month.

Arrest papers state one of the alleged sales occurred in Acerra's school office.

Police said they began investigating Acerra in early February after an informant told them that the principal was using and distributing the drug.

On Thursday, February 22, police watched Acerra sell a small amount of meth to a customer in a store parking lot, according to court documents. Police stopped the buyer, who told officers he had been to Acerra's home 10 to 15 times over the past three months, officials said.
