Bush laughs when asked if Saddam should be executed.
This was a clip from the Diane Sawyer interview that aired on GMA this morning. Diane asked him "would you be disappointed if Hussein does not receive the death penalty." He giggled, twice, for several seconds, it was a very "Beavis and Butt-head" kinda "huh huh . . . huh huh".

This guy is sick; anyone familiar with Mark Crispin Miller's book, the Bush Dyslexicon, this is a perfect example of his point, Bush is only happy, animated, and enthusiastic when he is talking about death (he laughed during the debate when asked about Byrd's killers (Ya can't kill them twice) he laughed about Karla Tucker. Its eery, strange, he delights in death, he loves the death penalty (anyone remember his leering reference to america's enemies during the state of the union, "lets just say, they aren't around anymore." He laughed then, too.)

Hope this is news.

2. Remember "Those fellas will be put to death"? (with smirk)
Bush said it in one of the Presidential debates. The expression of dellght on his face when discussing the implementation of the death penalty was memorable.

3. He learned to laugh that sadistic laugh
in the KrYPt of the Skull & Boners club at the elite Ivy League college where he was admitted after prep school.

For a moral human being, the preppy pResident's* macabre laugh is profoundly and disturbingly revelatory.

4. I'll never forget Bush mocking Karla Fay Tucker, pleading for her
life before he executed her. This is a despicable man!

6. My brother used to work on death row as a guard
and took delight in mocking the prisoners about their upcoming dates. I guess most of the guards (who prefer to be called "correctional officers") joined in:

Plop, plop
Fizz, fizz
Oh what a relief it is.

This was back when California used the gas chamber.

I didn't find it funny and I still don't. The inmates did despicable things and never deserve to see the light of day, but it isn't up to the guards to punish them more. I have no respect for anyone who has committed a heinous crime, but still...ugh. :( I'm finding that I have little to no respect for prison guards from hearing my brother's stories.

7. I know some guards (CA), none on death row, but they do become part
of the prison culture. I know it's an occupational hazard. And has to be hard for their families, who are "outside"...

Bush, though, has options, which your brother doesn't. Namely a large world body that is not supportive of the death penalty as the "ultimate justice". His apparent delight in the use of the death penalty is embarrassing, at the least.

Bush must have been one mean drunk.

8. "Pleeeease, meester Boosh, pleeeeease don't keeill me!"
That was one of the sickest, evilest things I ever saw on television. I still don't know why the Gore campaign didn't find a way to get it on TV during the election.

12. Actually, Karla Fay Tucker didn't actually plea for her life.
Some Christian activists, convinced that her reformation was sincere, pleaded for commutation, but Tucker stayed silent on the matter. A true Christian, at least in her last days. Her actual homocide I understand was pretty brutal.

11. Anyone really surprised at this?
Considering that as past governor of a state with more executions carried out than anywhere else (and unapologetic about it), I would have expected even more blatant chortling from Dubya on this.

15. This is the arrogance of a man without nerve.
Edited on Wed Dec-17-03 05:15 PM by fshrink
The same kind that makes wife beaters, gay bashers and other frightened little men with no dignity, courage or honesty. This is also the arrogance of a man who is used to own things and people. Unchallenged, protected from any kind of personal risk, compulsively inflicting on others what frightens him the most. The humiliation continues.

16. I always found it interesting that the one Bush person commuted was
Henry Lee Lucas, serial killer of perhaps over 200 women.

Why was this man the only one? Was it simply because he was white?

Or was it a sign of professional respect for someone who topped Bush's own state-sanctioned murder numbers at 152?

Either way, it is merely another piece of the troubling puzzle.
