Canada Has Its Priorities Straight...
OTTAWA FREEZES CAPITAL SPENDING
Last Updated Tue, 16 Dec 2003 15:54:15

OTTAWA - "The federal government has temporarily frozen all capital projects in an effort to find money to give the provinces for health care, Prime Minister Paul Martin said on Tuesday.

"Our number one priority is health care," Martin said following a cabinet meeting. "The objective is to be sure we can transfer the $2 billion to the provinces."

Former finance minister John Manley promised that the priority for any surplus at the end of the current fiscal year would be to transfer $2 billion to the provinces for health care."

On the downside, the Defense Minister, David Pratt said "the Sea King helicopters will not be affected by the freeze."

"As soon as the helicopter project is ready to go, it will be exempted from this," he said. "The helicopters are seen as a very important capital project."
Obviously, the guy is a plant from the Bush Administration.

Wouldn't it be great if our government put the needs of the people in front of its Billionare Special Interests?

1. This is an excellent move, imo
and not stopping the helicopter capital project is the right move as well. Our Sea King choppers are in very bad shape and need replacing. So far Martin gets a high 5 from me.

4. Great job PM Martin
Really the helicopters are necessary. Remember that the military doesn't have to be used for war, and these guys deserve equipment that won't kill them.

5. Don't dis the choppers
They're VERY BADLY needed for search and rescue thanks to the incompetence of the previous administration. It's a legit need - the old ones are not fit to fly.
