U.S. airstrike kills 13 west of Baghdad - military
BAGHDAD, Feb 8 (Reuters) - U.S. forces killed 13 insurgents in an air strike on two suspected foreign fighter safe houses west of Baghdad on Thursday, the U.S. military said.

It said the operation targeted a "senior foreign fighter facilitator" northeast of the town of Ameriya, near Falluja, in an area where there is a strong presence of Sunni insurgents.

"This operation significantly reduces foreign fighter facilitators' ability to operate inside Iraq," it said in a statement.

1. We're going to be hearing a lot of this stuff...
in the coming weeks. Bush's *surge* is already starting and the press, no doubt, has been instructed to highlight the supposedly "positive" aspects of The Surge. What we WON'T hear are the reports of "collateral damage", innocent Iraqis that were turned into a fine, red mist along with the official targets.
I expect a full Bush propaganda surge as well. The reports that come out of Iraq now must be positive, showing results for Bush's idiotic plan. Controlling the message is paramount to the Bush cabal right now. I expect Viet Nam style body counts each day in an attempt to win back the support of the American people.
Bush's *surge* is much more about propaganda and disinformation than an actual military strategy.
We'll have to depend in the foreign media for the truth about the state of affairs in Iraq during The Surge. We've pretty much depended upon them for the truth thus far in Bush's war but we'll need them more than ever now.

4. For those seeking the Vietnam parallel, after January 1969, when
Nixon promoted his 'Vietnamization' strategy, it basically meant standing down U.S. combat troops as GVN stood its troops up with a lot of U.S. airstrikes on South Vietnam (and Cambodia and Laos) thorwn in. Estimates vary as to the number of civilians killed during 1969-75, but the death toll among South Vietnamese civlians was very high.

"Foreign Fighter Facilitators" -- got to give those baby killers in the Air Force credit for their alliterative skill.
