Colombia mine blast kills 8

One woman was rescued but died in hospital
A gas explosion at La Capilla coal mine in Colombia killed eight people yesterday - just three days after a blast at another of the country`s coal mines killed 32.

The accident at the mine in Boyaca province caused part of the mine to collapse, trapping four miners and four rescue workers.

"We already have two bodies outside and the others have been located. They are working to bring them to the surface," an emergency offical told Reuters in a telephone interview from the site.

One woman was rescued after the initial blast but later died in hospital, he added. The accident at La Capilla follows a similar explosion at La Preciosa mine on Saturday.

In that incident - one of the worst in Columbia`s history - thirty-two miners died.

SARDINATA, Colombia --
An explosion tore through a makeshift coal mine in remote northeast Colombia on Saturday, killing 32 miners, a civil defense official said.

Rescue crews had located the bodies buried more than 1,300 feet below ground but were unable to safely remove them, said Yesid Arias, who was helping to coordinate the operation.
