Air Force Academy Investigates Cheating
http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=2858052

Nineteen freshman cadets at the Air Force Academy have admitted cheating on a test of general knowledge about their branch of the military, and nine others are under investigation, the school said Wednesday.

The cadets admitted obtaining answers to a test and forwarding them through an Internet social group and private computer messages.

Academy spokesman Johnny Whitaker said the test was part of a weekly series of exams that covered everything from quotes by famous military leaders to current events. The tests do not affect cadets' grade-point averages, but they must pass to advance to the second year.

"Our mission here is to produce leaders of character. You don't want someone flying on your wing who you don't trust," Whitaker said.

Of 28 students caught up in the probe, 19 are athletes, but the school declined to identify their teams, citing privacy issues.

5. Sure.
When they cheat, all they have to do is use their personal relationship with their lord and saviour, call him up, ask forgiveness and bingo, all problems solved.

When you are bathed in the blood of the lamb and born again, that's how it works. It's a very convenient way to do pretty much whatever you want.

And yes, that is pretty much the way some of them have told me it works.

8. I know, that carte blanche conferred by belief is very scary
and I am unfortunate enough to know quite a few fundies who firmly believe that they can be perfect shits in this life and still get their ticket punched for heaven.

The bible passage they most often cite for this screwball belief is from Paul. They usually don't react well when I remind them Paul never met Jesus and that Jesus is reported to have said quite a different thing about that.

Paul is convenient, especially to people who have just a little more than their neighbors do and want to hang onto it instead of doing that silly exercise of giving their wealth to the poor to attain salvation.

It's very hard to get through to Calvinists who think heaven's reward will occur here on earth unless they're stuck in major disasters like wars and depressions.

I just hope we're able to spot them better and keep them the hell out of power from now on. If we don't, this country is OVER.

2. About time. That place is a fucking sewer.
Between the Christian bullying of kids who aren't into that shit or are of other faiths, and the harassment of and assaults on females to the point of absurdity, they're in hot enough water. This is icing on the cake.

"19 are athletes..." Geez, wouldn't surprise me if one of the TEACHERS or COACHES posted the answers. Can't have those punks kicked off the TEAM, now! Whaddaya wanna bet the GOOD athletes get a second chance?

3. Purge!
This is a military academy.
Cheaters need to take the walk of shame on detection.

4. Admitted to cheating, but they're still there?
Why weren't they shown the door?

Don't they believe in the "Officers and Gentlemen" crap anymore?

9. The Saddest Part
I figure some people might not like what I say here, but I will say it. To me the saddest part is that there are some kids out there who could not have gotten letters from their Senators to get into one of the academies, but would have never done this. I tend to think that there are many kids who are much more deserving of going to these academies than some of the kids who do go to them, but cannot get in either because they do not have great grades or cannot get letters from their Senators. I think these academies should change some of their standards for getting accepted, especially the part about getting letters from Senators. While it is hard for some kids to get letters from Senators it is easy for those who are connected. I am not trying to bash any of John McCain's kids, but do you really think it was hard for them to get letters from two Senators. I do believe their father was one of the Senators they had to get a letter from. Do you think John McCain would write a bad letter about his own kids? I think his kids have done well at the Naval Academy, but what about these kids who just have well connected parents. I here about too many of these kids who go to these academies and then either do not pass their physical exams, cheat, rape classmates, or act completely unbecoming of a military officer.

Can someone tell me what is wrong with the academies? I saw a picture of the Naval Academy's graduation from a year or two ago and the lines of the battalion were completely messed up. It did not even look like the group was from the Naval Academy. If I had not read the caption I might have thought the battalion was from some other college. Have the academies always been like this and people just never knew about it?
