Edited on Mon Feb-05-07 05:33 PM by TheWraith
CLAYTON, Mo. - A Missouri man accused of kidnapping two boys and holding one for more than four years was charged Monday with forcible sodomy.

St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch announced the 71 new felony charges at a news conference on Monday.

The charges include two kidnapping counts; the remainder allege forcible sodomy. Each is a felony that carries a sentence of up to life in prison.

9. sigh
More violence won't help! Why suggest something that will just make the problem worse?

As to the sodomy charges, we have more moralists trying to legislate morality by using the scary word sodomy. Let's just call it sexual assault rather than trying to appease those religious nuts by using their biblical words.

11. How would it make it any worse?
Edited on Mon Feb-05-07 06:15 PM by MrSlayer
You can't really do worse than raping and torturing children. Slowly feeding this guy into a woodchipper feet first is not worse than what he did and it's no more than he deserves. Sigh all you want but putting this sick asshole into protective custody for the rest of his life to swap jerk off stories with the other sickos doesn't solve anything either.

Edit: typo

26. I imagine that solitary confinement
is the only thing that's going to keep this guy alive more than a day once his ass lands in the jail.

Short-eyes don't rank very high on the prison respect chain.

12. I think it has legal connotations. It is more than a biblical word. IMHO

24. If sodomy is the name of the crime on the books, that's the way they will charge him.
"Sighing" and debating semantics when two kids have "allegedly" been ripped from their families and raped, one for years, really isn't going to help, either.

8. Under Mo. law, rape only applies to forced sexual intercourse.
Therefore under the law it's impossible to "rape" a male.

16. One would think wrong, considering rape involves
sexual intercourse between a male and a female.

18. That is indeed one form of sexual assult/rape...
here is a little simple research for your amuzement........

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape

snip>

Some even further restrict rape to cases where a woman is forced by a man, however, it is also rape when men are forced into a sexual act by women or other men.

21. Okay, you walk up to these boys' families and tell them that the boys weren't raped.
Or that what was done to them was a lesser offense than if it had been two girls.

22. Oh for crying out loud. Who is saying this is a lesser offense?
If the legal definition of rape involves intercourse between a man and a woman, he can not be charged with rape under the law.
What does the lesser offense has to do with it?

23. Your post number 16 makes no such distinction.
While you're right that MO law (not all law, but MO law) doesn't reflect the broader definitions of rape, the attitude you seemed to be espousing is that that's the correct interpretation and that what happened to these boys is not really rape.

27. Looks like 17 of the charges are for the boy who was held 4 days.
The rest are for the boy who was held for 4 years. I'm so happy those boys were found alive but it's so, so sad to hear what they had to go through.

From stltoday.com:

"Altogether, McCulloch said, Devlin was charged with one count of kidnapping and 17 counts of forcible sodomy relating to the abduction last month, and a second count of kidnapping and 52 more counts of forcible sodomy relating to the abduction in 2002. Each count carries a penalty of up to life in prison."

29. sorry, but they did NOT need to announce this . . .
just the kidnapping charges are enough to keep this guy in prison for the rest of his life . . . pursuing, and publically announcing, the sexual abuse charges serves no purpose, other than to make the lives of these two kids even more miserable . . . jmho, of course . . .

30. They Did Need to Announce This
You can't have a trial where the charges aren't known. In the long run, it's better for the boys to face the entire scope - and public knowledge of it - than it would be to have to go around keeping a secret.

Even hardened criminals don't think kindly of child abusers.
