Hunger strike hits 71 days ("Guantanamo North")

... Mahmoud Jaballah, Mohammad Mahjoub and Hassan Almrei are being held at a recently built "immigration holding centre" on the grounds of Millhaven penitentiary in Kingston, Ont.

They have been subsisting for weeks on water and juice, and in Jaballah's case the hunger strike has reached 71 days.

The men have a long list of complaints, including lack of medical care and the absence of an independent ombudsman to hear complaints ...

The three men in Kingston are being held without charge and have not seen all the evidence against them. Under the security-certificate process, the government can detain foreign nationals believed to pose a national-security threat and withhold sensitive evidence from their lawyers ...
