(Far-right) Le Pen Sees Himself as President (of France)
Le Pen sees himself as president

Le Pen still enjoys substantial support
French far-right leader Jean-Marie Le Pen says he is confident he can win the country's presidential poll in April.

Mr Le Pen - who shocked many by qualifying for the second round in 2002 - predicted he would do so again thanks to divisions within the centre-right.

He added that he could win a run-off against the socialist candidate.

Mr Le Pen was eventually trounced by Jacques Chirac in 2002. Anxious to keep the far-right leader from office, even left-wing opponents backed Mr Chirac...cont'd

1. LOL. The best thing that can happen is a run between Ségolène and him.

5. Actually the best thing would be for Le Pen to just take a long walk off a short pier
He is evil and dangerous and gets far too much support in some quarters.

3. I don't buy the "moderation" by the Le-Pens. Jean Marie called
the holocaust "a detail." A leopard never changes its' spots.

7. If it comes down to him and Ségolène Royal, he's going to get his ass

handed to him. But I don't think he'll make it passed the first round this time. Last time he did because a lot of people on the left used the first round to vote for other candidates because they were convince that the second round was going to be between Chirac and Lionel Jospin, no matter what. They were wrong, and that scared them shitless. I doubt the same will happen this time.

I think it'll come down to Ségolène Royal and Nicolas Sarkozy (who by the way is also a xenophobic fuckwit, just not as bad as Le Pen by any stretch)

8. In the last election he had defeated the socialists
I believe he got some 25% of the vote.
The right wing is very powerful in france and it is getting worse. The following of le pen and his henchmen is growing.
