Intel: A Writer's Blocked (Plame)
A CIA panel has told former officer Valerie Plame she can't write about her undercover work for the agency, a position that may threaten a lucrative book project with her publisher. Plame's outing as a CIA officer in July 2003 triggered a criminal probe that culminates next week when Vice President Dick Cheney's former chief of staff I. Lewis (Scooter) Libby goes on trial for perjury and obstruction.

1. She needs to write a book of fiction, and fuck 'em!
We know how America works--if it's written, it's real. The film rights to this "novel" will further cement the ideas in the minds of the population. Who cares if it's called fiction? Wink, wink, nudge, nudge!!

She could actually go completely afield from her actual duties and missions, but everyone would assume otherwise. The main character should look a LOT like her, with a husband much like hers. If she can't swing the artistic novel-writing details, she should team up with a credible author who is familiar with the spy novel genre.

Then, she can embellish to beat the band, and no one will know what's real and what isn't. She can actually gild the lily that way, and maybe even have a piece in there where the character wants to write a book, and is told that she can't....

Ah, revenge. A dish best served cold. I say she should fuck 'em, mightily!!! Go, Valerie, go!

2. Let her write the book -- and let the CIA redact it.
A book with large sections blacked out will have a significant rhetorical, literary, and political effect.

Sometimes, what can't be said is more powerful than what is said. (Or is that too "postmodern" to say?)

There goes the RW whining about "political correctness."

Write it, Ms. Plame -- and let the Bush drones censor it.

3. Censorship here
is classic "do as I say but not as I do." It's ok for Libby and Rove to out Plame, but if she wants to do it herself. . .

the vice president's chief of staff is indicted and the CIA has a problem with HER telling the story (and making some cash for legal fees)?

CIA can publish anything related to their work without having it vetted by the CIA first, to ensure that no state secrets are revealed and no operatives or their contacts are endangered. CIA employees know this when they sign on with the organization.

On the other hand, the fact that the work she did is secret and can't be written about strongly undercuts the claim by Cheney and his henchmen that she was not an undercover operative and that nothing secret or important was revealed when her position with the CIA and her front company were outed.

8. The Wilson's should bring up these points
during their civil trial.

On one had BushCo wants to claim that she was a lower level pencil pusher, but then on the other hand her work was so sensitive that she can't even write a book about her experiences.

Sounds like their bs about whether they outed her or not.

9. "The sole yardstick," said a CIA spokesman...

Hold 'em to it, and write a revised version.
