FBI Details Possible Detainee Abuse

Jan 2, 8:06 PM (ET)

By MATT APUZZO

WASHINGTON (AP) - FBI agents documented more than two dozen incidents of possible mistreatment at the Guantanamo Bay military base, including one detainee whose head was wrapped in duct tape for chanting the Quran and another who pulled out his hair after hours in a sweltering room.

Documents released Tuesday by the FBI offered new details about the harsh interrogations practice used by military officials and contractors when questioning so-called enemy combatants.

The reports describe a female guard who detainees said handled their genitals and wiped menstrual blood on their face. Another interrogator reportedly bragged to an FBI agent about dressing as a Catholic priest and "baptizing" a prisoner.

Some military officials and contractors told FBI agents that the interrogation techniques had been approved by the Defense Department, including directly by former Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld.

1. Support the troops!
Rumsfeld did more than "approve" these "techniques." It's been known for some time that he traveled to Abu Ghraib, at least, to personally witness, if not partake in this abuse.

Frankly, given the sexual nature of bush's torture techniques, I wonder if Rumsfeld participated in either sexual activity with these prisoners or used the abuse as some kind of masturbatory aid.

6. The whole Bush administration
is staffed by some very sadistic, and unbalanced people. After reading the descriptions of the "harsh" interrogation techniques, it's clear that Bush is ordering torture. He is one sick sociopath, and those who support him are unbalanced, as well. I don't want our government being run by sadistic sociopaths.

Something very, very wrong has been happening, and those things have happened in our names. Just to set the record straight, what we have done, and are doing, in Bush's bogus "war on terra", is an abomination, and a threat to our democracy.

8. I'd like to know where they find these sub-normal women who are proud to
smear real or imitation menstrual blood on people's faces, and grab their genitals.

I don't think I'd like one to come visit me, I can guarantee you! What are they going to do with them after their glory years are over?

Maybe they can give them their own moment of personal fame on tv, on a show with a heavenly voice announcing their heroic deeds fumbling around in their skivs in their search for menstraul blood to wipe over the faces of frightened strangers who are thousands of miles from home. Maybe they will give them the Purple Crotch Award with a special ceremony in Washington, D.C.

I would PRAY the one who thought this all up would be there in his/her finest to oversee the event. What a triumph of a lifetime. Maybe they could list all their names and addresses for the world to learn, so we may all more properly send tokens of our reverence.

greater sense of right from wrong and a conscious, but then I hear about something like this and I wonder the exact same thing, where on earth they actually manage to find even one woman who would be willing to do such a thing to someone.

Absolutely sick....I hope that one day we will all know the identities of such monster mistresses and all the other torturers our government has trained and employed with our tax dollars....and that they all get to rot in prison - under better treatment than they ever gave to any of their prisoners.

19. An old saying, at least in my house as I grew up
"A woman is less likely to be a criminal, but when one is, she will be worse than most men."

Now personally, I don't think the women are any worse, just judged harsher. Because somehow we accept cruelty in men, but think women are not capable of it. Trust me, I have known some truly cruel women in my lifetime and none of them were criminals.

13. CNN: FBI: FBI employees saw prisoner abuse at Guantanamo
FBI: Workers saw prisoner abuse at Guantanamo
January 2, 2007

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The FBI on Tuesday released documents showing at least 26 of the agency's employees witnessed aggressive mistreatment and harsh interrogation techniques of prisoners by other government agencies or outside contractors at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

"On several occasions witnesses saw detainees in interrogation rooms chained hand and foot in fetal position to floor with no chair/food/water; most urinated or defecated on selves and were left there 18, 24 hours or more," according to one FBI account made public.

One FBI witness saw a detainee "shaking with cold," while another noted a detainee in a sweltering unventilated room was "almost unconscious on a floor with a pile of hair next to him (he had apparently been pulling it out through the night)."

Another witness saw a detainee "with a full beard whose head was wrapped in duct tape."

One FBI statement said that an interrogator squatted over the Quran and that a German shepherd dog was ordered to "growl, bark and show his teeth to the prisoner."...

FBI: Guantanamo interrogator squatted over Koran
Wed Jan 3, 2007 11:02am ET

by James Vicini

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - FBI agents at Guantanamo saw a military interrogator squat
over the Koran in order to anger a prisoner and observed a detainee whose head was
wrapped in duct tape, according to recently released FBI documents from a 2004
internal inquiry.

The documents stemmed from a survey of nearly 500 FBI employees who were asked
if they saw any aggressive interview techniques, interrogations or mistreatment of
prisoners at the U.S. military base at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. More than 25 incidents
were reported.

In one incident in October of 2002, a detainee was put in a plywood hut, where
interrogators yelled and screamed at him, according to the documents. One military
interrogator squatted over the Koran which "incensed" the prisoner, the document said.

... On another occasion, an agent was asked by a "civilian contractor" to come and see something.

"There was an unknown bearded longhaired d (detainee) gagged w/duct tape that had covered much of his head," the FBI document said.

When the FBI officer asked if the detainee had spit at interrogators, the "contractor laughingly replied that he had been chanting the Qur'an non-stop. No answer how they planned to remove the duct tape," the report said ...
