Bush: Execution Will Not Halt Violence
CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) -- President Bush said Friday that Saddam Hussein's execution marks the "end of a difficult year for the Iraqi people and for our troops" and cautioned that his death will not halt the violence in Iraq.

Yet, Bush said in a statement issued from his ranch in Texas, "it is an important milestone on Iraq's course to becoming a democracy that can govern, sustain and defend itself, and be an ally in the war on terror."

In a message of assurance to the people of Iraq, Bush said the execution was a reminder of how far the Iraqi people have come since the end of Saddam's rule.

"The progress they have made would not have been possible without the continued service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform," he said.

3. well, I guess it's so obvious that even a sleeping Georgie could state it
No doubt his minions tailored that statement to cover his posterior, should there be a further outbreak of conflict. (Not that he would let anything like that trouble his "beautiful mind", in true Bush fashion.)

7. The most ridiculous statement of the year:
In a message of assurance to the people of Iraq, Bush said the execution was a reminder of how far the Iraqi people have come since the end of Saddam's rule.

Just how far have the Iraqi people come since the end of Saddam's rule? The iraqis have experinced nothing but death and destruction since the end of Saddam's rule; that's just how far they have come. The execution of Saddam will have done nothing to heal the nation of Iraq.
Bush is sadly mistaken if he believes Saddam's execution will justify the US deadly assault against the people of Iraq. Somewhere in the dim rcesses of this man's brain he truly believes Saddam's death is a 'milestone' in the democratization of Iraq. Death is nothing to celebrte whether it is the death of US martyred soldiers, wanton killing of Iraqi citizens or even the death of despots.
For Bush to consider himself a hero for bringing some sort of 'freedom' and a possibity of some sort of a democracy by widespread death and destruction to the Iraqis is the skewed belief of an unhinged mind.

8. The execution proves none of these things
"becoming a democracy that can govern, sustain and defend itself, and be an ally in the war on terror"

It just proves that they could hang one man, with the help of the U.S. military.

10. He's not going to let anything halt the violence. He intends to create reasons to stay there,
and control the country, of course. Even an idiot could figure out that one.

11. full bullshit statement here
PRNewswire -- Today, Saddam Hussein was executed after receiving a fair trial -- the kind of justice he denied the victims of his brutal regime.

Fair trials were unimaginable under Saddam Hussein's tyrannical rule. It is a testament to the Iraqi people's resolve to move forward after decades of oppression that, despite his terrible crimes against his own people, Saddam Hussein received a fair trial. This would not have been possible without the Iraqi people's determination to create a society governed by the rule of law.

Saddam Hussein's execution comes at the end of a difficult year for the Iraqi people and for our troops. Bringing Saddam Hussein to justice will not end the violence in Iraq, but it is an important milestone on Iraq's course to becoming a democracy that can govern, sustain, and defend itself, and be an ally in the War on Terror.

We are reminded today of how far the Iraqi people have come since the end of Saddam Hussein's rule -- and that the progress they have made would not have been possible without the continued service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform.

Many difficult choices and further sacrifices lie ahead. Yet the safety and security of the American people require that we not relent in ensuring that Iraq's young democracy continues to progress.

13. Help Me Understand
Saddam Hussein executed for gassing some hundreds of Kurds.

Bush kills 3,000 US troops (maimed some 20,000 or so) and probably some 600,000 Iraqis.

Is there a disconnect here?

The implications are obvious to me.

What was Rumsfeld doing in Iraq?

And after the crimes for which Saddam was ultimately executed?

The Bush mafia silences another witness to their crimes.

21. Execution of Saddam was a grave injustice
Saddam's summary trial and execution was a grave injustice in that it was the final coverup and stonewalling of America's complicity in his crimes. As Robert Fisk wrote in a biting column:

Who encouraged Saddam to invade Iran in 1980, which was the greatest war crime he has committed for it led to the deaths of a million and a half souls? And who sold him the components for the chemical weapons with which he drenched Iran and the Kurds? We did. No wonder the Americans, who controlled Saddam's weird trial, forbad any mention of this, his most obscene atrocity, in the charges against him. Could he not have been handed over to the Iranians for sentencing for this massive war crime? Of course not. Because that would also expose our culpability.

22. "sober" my ass
Crawford is his bourbon headquarters.

The president's statement had a sober, measured tone that contrasted with his offhand remark after U.S. troops found the deposed Iraqi dictator in an underground hideout in 2003.
