Bush set to make Iraq statement

Bush set to make Iraq statement

US President George W Bush is set to make a statement on Iraq after meeting top aides at his Texas ranch.

Vice-President Dick Cheney, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and new Defence Secretary Robert Gates are among those attending the talks.

But it is not clear whether Mr Bush is set to unveil a major new Iraq strategy which had been expected in January.

...

White House spokesman Scott Stanzel said: "President Bush will talk soon to our troops, to the American people and to the Iraqi people about the new way forward in Iraq that will lead to a democratic and unified country that can sustain, govern, and defend itself."

2. You know something?
I'm not very interested in anything this murderous dolt has to say. We the people sent him a little message last month, and he seems to recorded over it on his answering machine. I haven't seen anything yet that would indicate to me that he understands anything of what we said on November 7.

If he won't listen to us, I'm not inclined to listen to him. KnowwhatImean?

28. But some things he could say might be worth listening to, for example:
"I resign the presidency."

Or just "I resign" would be enough, if "presidency" is too big a word for him.

If Scott Stanzel said that with a straight face he's one sick puppy.

I bet you dollars to donuts he says absolutely nothing new except we are in the long haul and it's hard work.

Anything other than this will not do. "My Fellow Americans, I have lied to you all and I will be stepping down from my position as President of the United States and submit myself voluntarily to the War tribunals at the Hague. We are getting completely out of Iraq and this country will commit itself through monetary means to assist the Iraqi's for all the countless damage I have done. I will be forth coming with all my knowledge so that others will also be accountable. I am sorry to the entire world but especially to my family."

16. Eh. Not our taxpayers money
Illict means via Bechtel, Haliburton or any companies that were awarded no-bid contracts for Iraq. They can pay for it. All Bush assets and any associated with Bush needs to be frozen by the FBI and international juridisction.

9. Who is a president answerable to.....
When bush was elected by a 3 percent margin he brags he had a mandate by the public. Now that he has another clear mandate, END THE WAR AND BRING THE TROOPS HOME, what does he do..the opposite.

So to bush what constitutes a mandate? To do anything you want because you are the president, no matter what the people of the country want.

15. That is the crux of the issue
He does not feel he is answerable to anyone. He comes from a family that believes in regal entitlement. Like many an European king, tsar, or czar, he believes in his right to do what he wants, regardless of the protests and suffering of all the vassals. Our Constitution attempts to avoid exactly that scenario by NOT creating a monarchy. The executive is supposed to be a hireling, administering the laws passed by congress, who in turn represent the people. Until someone really takes that seriously - walks up to the speakers podium in the senate/house with a copy of the Constitution in hand and says, effectively "Houston, we have a problem", nothing is going to change.

I am not sure that the only real remedies the Constitution provides are appropriate, those being holding the purse strings and the ability to remove from office for "high crimes and misdemeanors". Certainly there is a laundry list of those to use in impeachment proceedings, but in this particular case the "due process" of impeachment seems inadequate. It would take too long, be too protracted and painful for the country. It is the only recourse, and I hope it happens, but in my heart of hearts I want someone to just walk up and say "do-over", handcuff him, haul him off, and tell the legally elected president to get cracking on setting things right! Screw impeachment, screw 2008, I just want the clock wound back!

17. Link's been updated - Bush hails Iraq plan 'progress'
US President George W Bush says he is making "good progress" on a new Iraq strategy, after talks with top aides.
Those attending included the vice president, defence secretary, secretary of state, chair of the joint chiefs of staff and national security adviser.

Mr Bush said more consultations were needed before he and his team made public their revised plans.

Earlier this week the US announced it would send up to 3,300 soldiers to the Gulf in early January.

That decision follows a recent report commissioned by the White House, which urged a temporary build-up of troops to quell increasing violence in Iraq.

It is not yet known which other recommendations from the report by the Iraq Study Group the president intends to adopt.

Among dozens of suggestions, it urged dialogue with Iran and Syria - which has already been rejected.

18. Bush Fine-Tunes Iraq Plan At Ranch
Bush Fine-Tunes Iraq Plan At Ranch
Top Advisers Gather At President's Vacation Home For 'Non-Decisional' Meeting
CRAWFORD, Texas, Dec. 28, 2006

(CBS/AP) President Bush burnished his new war plan on Thursday at a meeting at his Texas ranch with his top military and diplomatic advisers.

The session was billed as a chance for Mr. Bush to further discuss all the options — especially a plan for increasing the number of U.S. troops in Iraq — as a way of quelling the violence, reports CBS News correspondent Mark Knoller.

"We're making good progress," Mr. Bush said outside an office building near his Texas ranch where he stood with Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.

Mr. Bush took no questions from reporters and offered no details about the strategy he is set to announce to the nation after the first of the year.

"As I think about this plan, I always have our troops in mind," Mr. Bush said. He will continue to consult with members of Congress and the Iraqis, he said, stressing the importance of having a government in Iraq that can deal with the militias and the rising violence.

President Bush met Thursday with his national security team at his Texas ranch,

will seek more advice before settling on a final plan.

"We're making good progress," Bush said outside an office building near his Texas
ranch where he stood with Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary of State
Condoleezza Rice, Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and
Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.

Bush took no questions from reporters and offered no details about the strategy

29. AP: "Bush taking more time to craft Iraq plan"
Check out this lead, just saw on headlined on yahoo news:

CRAWFORD, Texas - President Bush worked nearly three hours at his Texas ranch on Thursday to design a new U.S. policy in Iraq, then emerged to say that he and his advisers need more time to craft the plan he'll announce in the new year.

Burdened by low approval ratings on his handling of the war, the president is under mounting pressure to come up with a new blueprint for U.S. involvement in Iraq where the execution of Saddam Hussein — perhaps as early as this weekend — could incite further violence.

"We've got more consultation to do until I talk to the country about the plan," Bush said, appearing outside an office building at his ranch.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061228/ap_on_go_pr_wh/bush

Wow, he spent almost three whole hours working on a 'plan' for Iraq. Damn, it must have been hell for him! BTW, I spent two and a half hours this afternoon in a meeting at work on an issue of far, far less importance...What a utterly useless knob Bush is...
