Hundreds apply to be Saddam’s hangman

BAGHDAD/WASHINGTON - Hundreds of Iraqis have applied to act as executioner of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein following the confirmation of his death sentence by Iraq’s appeals court, an adviser to Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Al Maliki said on Wednesday.

Bassam Al Husseini was quoted as saying by US television channel ABC members from all three leading religious communities and all ethnic groups were amongst the applicants.

Iraq has not got an official executioner and no such position had been advertised, ABC said.

The death sentence against Saddam Hussein for crimes against humanity had been upheld by Iraq’s appeals court on Tuesday.
